Best Rolex Watch to buy now as an investment

Hi Guys,

I already have a Black GMT LN but want to buy another one purely as an investment.

I was thinking either the Batman or the Pepsi or a Black Sub.

What watch would you buy now from an investment point of view? My budget atm won't stretch to an Hulk or Daytona.

Any opinions welcome.

16610lv 50th Anniversary Sub.

An early 2003/2004 Flat 4 if possible but even the later pointed 4 are increasing significantly in value of late.

Watches are historically bad investments especially now that the economy is good and prices are high. Find another investment IMHO

Get a Batman and sell the black gmt ln then for investment add either a 5 digit Pepsi or a vintage sub (eg 1680 white / 5513)

SD4K might do well in the coming years because of its relatively short run. Once the collectors and tapered lug fanciers (like myself) have bought them up. Nicest sized and shaped Diver Rolex has come up with in the last decade imo.

Vintage GMT or Sub in your price range would probably be the safest bet. Most if not all modern pieces won't see the gains that the vintage have seen at least anytime soon. With that being said it's a crap shoot to know if it'll pay off. The problem as they say is that modern pieces are made in such high quantities that they are not rare enough. Plus the fact that since they are still in production they are still relatively obtainable. Any markups you see on the BLNR, LVC, DaytonaC, SS SkyDweller, will go away when inventory picks back up. It's just an inflated demand right now and the fact everyone wants it and can't wait.

None.

High end luxury jewelry is not an investment.

Watches are meant to be worn to tell time.

I would invest my money based on my goals and my time horizon for selling the investment after it has served it purpose of making me more money.

A Daytona-C at regular msrp. It should be years until supply reaches demand. No others.

Invest in financial instruments, luxury items should not be seen as investments or assets.

Go back in time to the late 80s and get a dozen 1016s and 5513s and only wear one of each.

I agree but there are deals out there though if you want to make some easy money (buy and flip). Too many people with too much money doing crazy things these days.

I'm not here to scold you like many in this thread, so I'll play the purely hypothetical speculation game with you. Everything else is my opinion and could be WAY off base, but its fun to guess.

I get the sense that 5 digits will continue to climb in value. I see the discontinued 5 digit seadweller in mint condition becoming a valuable watch down the road.

If you are attempting to "invest", if you can really even call it that, my top priority would be full set and MINT condition or NOS. NOS is probably your best bet; hell a NOS Datejust from the 70s would sell for quite a bit. People LOVE NOS. If you can snatch a 16600 NOS and store it in a safe for 30 years, I think a lot of people will be very interested in that watch.

Models to look for IMO are the 16600, 16710, and 16610LV

I am just assuming you won't be able to afford the 16520, and tbh the 16610LV ship may have sailed.

None. These are mass produced watches we are meant to enjoy so if you want to invest I recommend giving the 6-10K to whoever manages your retirement fund.

Generally, Rolex SS sport models do appreciate in value; however, I would sooner bet on - and put money in the stock market for gain than on a watch.

Oh wow you get some right rude people on this forum - @nursejm - was that really necessary with your instagram post - I have a thick skin but your post was borderline offensive. I expected this sort of talk from boy racers off a car forum but not really on here.

To the people that took the time to write a decent reply - thank you. I thought given the price of the grey market the way it is now, shortage of SS in the market - me asking this question would provide some interesting opinions.

I'll suggest that if you buy a watch to enjoy (which to me means wearing it) and you are looking for one that may likely go up or at least hold its value, then you should be able to do that as long as you avoid any of these recent models that are experiencing a "shortage" real or imagined.

However, as a pure investment, i.e. put it in a safe and not take it out until you sell it, the aforementioned NOS is probably the best way to go. Either that or a nice vintage.

But for me, as an investment, I'd rather put the money in a good stock ETF or even a CD. You'll do just as well, if not better, and it's much more liquid.

Understand where you're coming from, however, the present shortage of steel models makes your already difficult goal even harder...because of their scarcity, it's going to be hard to meet the "buy low, sell high" mantra of a traditional investment.

To answer your question, though, I think any steel model you get a decent deal on is going to hold its value through the years. Not as an investment, mind you, but holding value. Big difference.

I agree with Brian, invest in your enjoyment.
