I just noticed a watch like my 5980-1r on Chono24 for $170,000 dollars!

Have the prices on the 5980-1r really gotten that outrageous? I paid under 95,000 with a 5% discount. Oh, how times have changed. I wear my watch at least once a week in rotation, but I never pictured myself wearing a watch that now is selling for $170,000. Ridiculous!

Patience brother....... I've been collecting pateks over 10 years..... So over the years you get to accumulate a big collection. I'm just waiting for this whole hype to be over so everything can go back to normal and the good old days.

Yet... but give it a few weeks and it will be selling for 180,90 etc unless a black swan or two crashes into the markets.

Guys if you are buying for investment purposes or resale value, YOU WILL GET BURNED...... that is not the right approach. Buy the pieces you like and will actually enjoy wearing....if your following the trend and the speculators that a big mistake.

No one is saying that, but guys who keep saying this is the highest price have been wrong for 2 years straight now and have stopped people from buying watches, so I say, like with any momentum market, ride the market and don't try to predict things, that is a mug's game. Buy the watch, not the price.

I’m just going to keep on wearing it, I was just floored by the sale price. I have never purchased a watch for an investment but in these crazy times I think we’re all doing fairly well with Rolex and Patek.

I try not to think about the latest price of my RG Nautilus when wearing it, I think of how low balled you'd get from a big dealer so that takes the edge off, otherwise it gets very vertiginous and I'm already scared of heights.

I've been chasing my AD from here to the end of the world. They said it's nearly there, but then changed the tone a few days later to "we hope Patek will fulfill this order as we haven't heard from them with any updates". WTF?

I suspect I'll hear that it has landed after June 1st, so they can earn an extra 4%.

5980/1A was sold at Christie's Hong Kong in 27 May for HKD 687 000 including the buyers premium.

Wow, to think that there used to be a lot of old stock for the 5980a sitting in windows for a long time. A few years ago a dealer in Boston went out of business and it was 30% off and even then it sat. Would've could've should've I guess

That must have been the pre-2015 interest in Patek. My friend got a 5980A with 15% off many years ago. Those many years ago I couldn't justify paying 40-50K for a steel watch. Now I somehow can

2014 they couldn’t give steel 5980 away. Every Patek dealer I walked into had 2. Once I saw 3 two in the window and one in the case.

Tried a used blue 5980 on at tourneau and remember thinking it was whack. Hard pass at 40k asking.

Do you regret not getting one now? Does the price increase make your opinion change of the 5980 now? Curious your opinion is very strong about the watch, I wonder what others see that you don’t like? In my opinion it checks a lot of boxes

1- discontinued
2- SS patek
3- blue dial
4- first in house chrono movement
5-30 year anniversary
6- some come with Geneva seal
