6285 Dial question. Is this dial "Tropical"?

Hello all,

I'm hoping for some input about the dial on my SS 6285 from the mid-1950s (serial number 86,XXX). Please see the gold "flecks" on this black dial. Is this what I have seen referred to as a "tropical" dial?

I also have a gold-and steel 6285 with what I am told is a refinished cream dial. I am considering putting this black dial on it, and the refinished dial on the SS watch pictured here, on the assumption that the original black dial with gold flecks will significantly increase the value of the two-tone watch.

I'd appreciate your thoughts!

To me that’s just damage.

No; it's just damaged, probably from moisture.

Not sure I understand the goal of swapping the dials. One of your watches will still have a repainted dial. And the other will have a damaged dial. So it’s not going to help with the overall value. Now if you’d prefer to WEAR the TT watch with the black dial, that would make sense.

Damage from moisture. Tropical is an even color changed patina without dial flaking. It’s a vastly over used and misrepresented description.
