16710 vs. 116600

Hello TRF!

I want to get my second Rolex, this is my current collection:

Rolex Explorer I Ref. 114270
Tudor Black Bay 58

The way I see it, here is the break down of both watches:

16710 pros:

- GMT function for travel
- More versatile (6 watches in 1)
- May increase in value at a faster rate than SD4K

16710 cons:

- Less watch for the price / not as good of a value
- Harder to find one in good condition
- Longer lug to lug at 48mm, (I have a 6.25inch wrist)

116600 pros:

- Modern Rolex / ceramic bezel option that I currently don't have in my collection
- No cyclops, shorter lugs and overall more unique
- Better condition in the grey market

116600 cons:

- Top heavy at 15mm...
- Too similar to a sub
- Might not increase in value as much (don't really care about this but also don't want to see it tank in the secondary market)

Am I missing anything here?

Pics of watches for comparison (not my watches)

For your smaller wrist the 16710 is going to wear much better.

it depends because the bracelet can be size with 5 links on 6 o'clock.

the modern bracelet can be reduced to 4 links.

but the shorter clasp on the 16710 does help.

I was more talking of the case itself fitting his wrist better. Good point on the bracelet though, he might have to flip the clasp or have a permanent link removed on the older bracelet.

May not have to remove any perm links. The clasp on the 16710 is shorter so it should look balanced underneath the wrist. But large watches should be ok because I've seen ppl with skinny wrist wearing the seiko sumo.

I’d go GMT, but instead buy 116710 black (same cost as 16710), but new bracelet and clasp or BLNR (higher cost but unique), or 126710 BLRO or BLNR (if you can get one at retail)

You can technically wear any size watch, doesn't mean it looks good. For a 6.25" wrist the 16710 is going to fit much better in my opinion.

Is this really the case though (no pun intended )

I've heard that the shorter lugs on the SD4K makes the watch a bit more wearable for smaller wrists even than some 5 digit cases.

Here are pics I dug up for comparison on a relatively small wrist .

Obviously not accounting for the 12mm vs. 15mm thickness in this angle.

Anyone who has both watches would care to shed some light?
