My heart breaks for you. I am a person who often times lives questioning what more I could have done for my loved ones that have passed, and in the end there is nothing more that can be done so it is a fruitless exercise. Live life moving forward knowing that you two shared an incredible bond, and as difficult as it may be lean on the things in life that bring you joy to get you through this extremely difficult time.

May she rest in peace, and may you find the strength to not blame yourself and move forward.

I am deeply saddened by your loss and hope that you can forgive yourself for any guilt. No one is to blame for your wife’s passing, least a caring and loving husband, like yourself. Never dwell on how your wife died and focus on how she lived. Memories of great moments will bring you comfort in time of need. Isolation is your worst enemy at this time. Talk to friends or religious mentor; groups that deal with loss are also very helpful to let you know you are not alone. Please let us know how you are coping; we are all praying for you.

Greg please try to get beyond the blame game - I know that dark place all too well.

My brother tried to talk to me the night he committed suicide but I was studying for college final exams and asked if it could wait and he said yes. An hour later he was dead.

I blamed myself for 6 months but realized finally I had talked him out of it once before and whatever he was dealing with would have probably caught up to him one day in the future when I had graduated and was gone. I eventually was able to let the blame go and move forward. Talking to family, friends and professionals about my experience helped me process it and let it go.

Seek out the right listeners, share your thoughts and feelings, and process the day’s events until you come to recognize it wasn’t your fault, which seems clear to me as an outsider.

Your pain and grief that you are experiencing is just a testament to your love for her and the loss you are feeling. All perfectly normal. Hang in there and God bless you.

I'm sorry for your loss Greg, she sounds like a great lady. When tragedy happens we look for answers, sometimes there just aren't any. It may not seem like it now, but this too will pass. Talk to friends, your clergy, or a professional, no shame in that. I have a Lodge Brother who lost his wife, and both parents within 2 months. All we could do for him was to be there.
