Gym Question
Maybe some members have ideas regarding this..
I go to the gym rather often, in fact I have more gym days than non-gym days. My dilemma is what to do with my watch while I work out. Keeping it in my locker makes me nervous on account of having my locker broken into twice in the past (not at the gym I currently go to though). At some point I was putting it in my socks as I imagine this is not somewhere they would look. Keeping the watch on my wrist with weights flying about and what not doesn't seem like a good idea. Wearing a beater on gym days is a possibility but in the morning I don't always know if I'll be going to the gym or not (I go when I can "escape" from work at a reasonable hour). Leaving it in the car is another possibility - just not sure it's actually any safer than the locker. Ideas anyone?

My OP39 and YM40 each lift weights (mostly machines) and swim with me. They also run.

don't leave it in your car or locker.
if you must wear it to the gym, keep it on while there. |

I leave it in my car. It's as secure there as anywhere except a bank vault.

The best solution I've used was at Gold's Gym in Japan. They had small safety boxes similar to those at banks that you could use for free. You could just fit your watch and wallet. It was right by the reception and always monitored by gym staff.

I would never take it to a gym (afraid to smash it into something and dont want it in a locker) but I do take my waterproof watches running, including my Rolex.

My suggestion would be to buy a decent smaller sized safe and keep the watch in it locked in your vehicle(trunk if you have one). For those who work, this subject is a dilemma, as members have had watches stolen from lockers. I am retired, and leave my watch home when going to the gym, as it is the safest place and wearing a PM Rolex is not logical for the gym setting.

If you have "weights flying around" perhaps you should address your work-out regimen.
Been wearing a Rolex at the Gym for years and haven't smashed it under a set of barbells yet.

My Omegas come back from service in little red containers that are shaped and sized similar to the small cases that spectacles live in. They’re foam filled with cutouts to ensure the watch is padded and the bracelet will not rub against itself or the case. I imagine you can buy something very similar for very little money. It’s small enough to fit in the pocket. Never used it for this particular purpose as I wear my Casio.
Not my picture. Or watch. Thinking about it, you could just use an actual specs case, fill it with foam and Bob’s your mother’s brother. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

If you are that concerned that the watch may get damaged while you are working out, I would detour home and leave it there. Peace of mind is priceless. But, remember, in the end: it's only a watch; it can be repaired or replaced. Insurance on all valuables is a must.

Gym Question
This is a solid suggestion if you can’t leave it in the gym or on your wrist. You could also wear it in the gym and cover it with a sweatband?

It depends on what I’m doing that day. Sometimes I wear it while other days I won’t. I work out early morning and return home before work so on the days I’m using the kettlebells I try to leave it at home. However since this is the only time I take it off I often forget to do so. On those days I have a compartment in my car that locks up like a bank vault. I use it to lock up my valuables and work “stuff” when needed. Even if the car is stolen it’s doubtful the thief is getting in there. I wouldn’t lock up my pocket change in my gym’s lockers and expect it to be there. My gym has wooden lockers that look like nice furniture but are about as secure as my kid’s piggy bank. I wouldn’t be surprised if the keys they issue couldn’t be used to open more than one of the lockers. There are safes you can buy that you can secure to your trunk or under your seat. In a busy parking lot during daylight hours your either going to be victim of a smash and grab or leaving your car unlocked. These safes can be hidden and too much trouble for a quick smash and grab. They are intended for other things but a watch will fit fine. If you google “car safes” you’ll find plenty of options. |

My gym is not.. how shall I put it.. in the best of areas. I have a DJ TT so I don't really want to show it. Like it was suggested wearing a sweat band over it is a good option too.

How about a small pouch that would fit your watch and phone and just bring it with you at every excercise station or bench. Small enough like those little coin purses woman bring.

Yes, that's the suggestion in post #11. I will try that for sure, just need a suitable case.

Gym Question
Just find a good hiding spot in your car. In one of my old cars (g37 I think) the passengers footwell air vent was easily accessible and had an easily removable plastic cover on it that I would remove and place the watch inside the vent and then pop the cover back on. Sounds crazy but it took like 5 seconds to do and nobody was going to find my watch if they broke in the car... unless they had lots of time and maybe a Rolex sniffing dog.

[QUOTE=Gentleman8;8685538]Do you hide it somewhere?
On occasion I'll lock it in the glovebox, but usually I'm too lazy to take the time. I know the glovebox isn't that secure, it's just a matter of making someone have to spend longer in the car. Breaking into a car in a parking lot is almost always a snatch and grab for something left visible. Where I live, the thieves usually just check doorhandles and mostly target unlocked cars. |

Exactly. They aren’t going to go searching through every nook and cranny in the car. If you put it in an out of the way spot most likely a thief would miss it. And if they do happen to find it, that’s what insurance is for. |

I drive right by my bank on the way to and from the gym, so for me it’s a quick stop off before and after.

I play squash 3 times a week and roughly 2-3 hours at the club per visit. I'd rather not stress over my watch while I'm trying to enjoy my matches Sent from my SM-G935W8 using Tapatalk |
