Manila

I’m really sorry for my ignorance. I want to ask for advice here. I’ll be going to Manila for work in a few months, just for two days two nights. Hotel is in Taguig City, and the workspace is four buildings away.

The plan is to walk to the workspace and back to the hotel for the two days, and also go get dinner near the hotel. Besides that, it’ll be from the airport to the hotel, and vice-versa.

I have two Pateks, a vintage Rolex 6694, a Seiko SLA017, and a $40 Soviet-era Vostok.

What would your advice be on what should I wear on my wrist, if at all?

Also, should I arrange Grab and not taxis for transport for the airport-hotel/hotel-airport runs?

Manila is the only capital city in this part of the world where I would advise caution. My close friend has been robbed twice by airport cab drivers going into town.

I’ve been to the Philippines ten times and was most recently there at Easter.

Taguig is one of the nicer areas of Manila. But I wouldn’t bother wearing an expensive watch. You are highly unlikely to have any problems, but bear in mind that if you are an obvious foreigner then your ethnicity alone will mark you out as someone who is wealthier than most locals.

Grab is cheaper than a regular taxi and many taxi drivers are also driving for Grab. There is also a Grab booking kiosk near the taxi rank at the airport.

From past experience I can tell you that the "Slicky Boys" there are some of the best in the world. Leave your Rolex at home an wear a $20.00 watch.

Even the SLA017 isn't safe, they really know their Seiko divers over there. Go with the Vostok
