Ebay Auction Concerns

Gentlemen, earlier today I placed a winning bid on an AP Diver for $8300 + $100 shipping from Russia. This is my first big watch purchase and now getting second thoughts of moving forward. Here is the link:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/152173678172...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

Has anyone purchased a watch like this on Ebay? The price is a little lower than the market rate so I am a little skeptical. The seller says it comes with all boxes and papers. What do you guys think? Thanks for the newbie help!!

Personally, I would never buy a watch on Ebay. I would definitely steer clear of anything from Russia. That's just me.

Not the smartest thing you did all day. Seller has only 15 positive reps?

I *might* consider taking the neg hit and not go through with this. You'll have no recourse.

With just one feedback as a seller and a description like this you bought it?

"I had such a genuine watch is used in excellent condition, no scratches or damage. They are cleaned and prepared They are in excellent working condition. The screw head provides protection from moisture.Rubber strap, the clasp is a pin. I reserve the right to end the auction early as they are exhibited in another place. Also, if the price will not be me to arrange. Before you bet ask a question, you can answer with the delay. Payment must be made within 24 hours or I reserve the right to terminate the deal. Return is accepted within 24 hours after receiving in the mail. Good luck!"

I am sorry to be the one to break it to you BUT that is a FAKE Diver.

Biggest tell is the date window and font. I hope you didn't pay yet!

Chewed case back screws, raised heads on bezel, datewheel font (as already pointed out), and inner bezel printing are ALL clear indicators that this is a fake – even before worrying about which part of the world the seller happens to reside in.

Oh no! Sorry to hear about your eBay bid. The low feedback count of 15 and the fact that the seller is from Russia would have been huge red flags for me. Given the fact that a number of TRF members voiced concern regarding the authenticity of the watch, I hope you didn't proceed with the payment yet. Good luck!

No deal, even if he had put up pics of the real thing most likely these sellers will send you a very accurate looking fake.

No wonder why on TRF we often say Fleebay, I personally never ever look for anything there, and especially for watches.
Even if the watch pics were ok, I can't tell you if they are or not, but others which are much better at it than me seem to say it's not, 15 positive feedback and russian seller are HUGE red flags, I really hope you didn't pay yet.

Agree and agree. Some people have success on eBay but I don't have any desire to navigate that minefield.

Save up and buy from someone like DavidSW or watches24seven if you don't want to go the AD route!

100% AGREE. Trusted seller or AD. I don't even look at EBAY.

This. And the seller is in Russia, so pretty much all of your buyer protections from eBay & PayPal would be non existent. There are some good buys on eBay, but make sure the seller is USA based, so at least there is some form of security, if you get sold a fake watch or any type of fake goods.

He also doesn't have seller reviews. Only buyer review. I almost 100% the person buying this will be screwed.

I think the watch might not be real...be safe and get it verified. The price is way too low and even the seller bring the watch to any preowned shop would fetch much higher pricing than selling it at such price.

LOL at the idea of buying from Russia - NO WAY! I'd only buy from highly-regarded sellers on eBay - not random individuals.
