First I acquired my 16610 sub. Later, I picked up the polar expII 16570, and felt a little weird about buying a second Rolex when the first one was so great. But now, if I had to keep only one, it would be the expII. It's just a perfect, everyday casual watch - non-blingy, very understated, super comfortable.

My one and only Rolex is a SD43 (so called Mk1)

  • Why choose something other than the icon?

I had a 16610 and a 116013LN so have scratched the 5 and six digit itch. Was never a fan of the all steel six digit subs (until seeing the 126610)

  • Is it your every day watch?

Basically yes, but I have other watches that get wrist time.

  • Any plans to "pass it on" to the next generation?

    No. I don't have kids

  • Did you get it to scratch the Rolex itch and just lost interest in the brand after joining the crown club?
Nope. I got it because I've always preferred Sea Dwellers to subs and the Sea Dweller was "born" same year I was, so being a 50th anniversary release made it the perfect 50th gift to myself, and picking up in the anniversary year (2017) even more so.

It is a very SAFE BET that the overwhelming majority of Rolex owners have a one Rolex collection and that that overwhelming majority of them do not own the Sub. And if I were betting, I would bet the most popular one Rolex collections in existence are Datejusts.

I've got this 216570 fused to my wrist and I don't see any other watch from any maker displacing it anytime soon. I live in NYC and my wife is Australian, so a GMT complication has become a must for me and imo every GMT watch that isn't a Rolex is a silly idea for everyday use. The right 16710 could challenge for wrist time, but I haven't found one yet that wasn't overpolished and/or overpriced.

I have an Explorer (114270) only. Probably the best watch for reading the time quickly and arguably one of Rolex's other icons.

Although I like the Submariner, I prefer the Explorer's 3-6-9 dial and size. Can also dress up or down easily.

It is a daily (unless I am doing something which will risk damaging it), I will never sell it.

Depending on how things go, I might expand the collection - either an old Submariner (14060M), white gold Day-Date or SS GMT-Master II.

I wear a DJ 36 everyday. My only Rolex and its pushed my other watches pretty much out of rotation.

I could easily be a 2 watch guy with a DJ 36 for 90% and a beater $15 Casio for the other 10% of the time.

My Grandfather is a 1 watch guy. He daily wears a 36mm yellow gold day date with factory diamond bezel and hour markers on a champagne dial. He looks like a BO$$ lol

My only watch is a milguass z blue. The reason I didn’t buy a sub is because a lot of people have them, the great thing about the Milgauss is there are not to many of them about. Also they can be worn for casual or for more dressed up occasions

I chose the YM 42 bc it’s the first Rolex that had the “look” I was after. Unfortunate that they made it only in PM bc it made it needlessly expensive. It’s my only Rolex.

My one Rolex is an OP 36. While my first was a DJ but sold long ago I still have and wear the OP.

The size, look and comfort on my wrist is better for me than wearing a diver on a daily basis. I don't care about status so getting someone else's icon doesn't interest me.

It is my daily watch but I have others that get wrist time as well. Most days it's the 116000. I've had watches from JLC, Minerva, IWC, Nomos and others but seem to come back to Rolex when I'm looking for a wear anywhere watch. I would have kept them all if possible but that's not my reality.

I don't buy personal items with intentions of passing it on to another. That's what gifts are for. :-)

My appreciation of watches goes well beyond Rolex. For my daily wear the Oyster Perpetual is one of the best options for me. Comfortable, reliable, durable, accurate watches that are well made and have great after sales service. The total package is hard to find.

Yes! The perfect Rolex, in my opinion.

I was a one watch, one Rolex guy for 30+ years (Datejust). Then I got a Daytona and basically have been a one watch, one Rolex guy for the last 3 1/2 years. I haven't put on my DJ yet this year. Although I should, and I will.

I didn't know a Sub was supposed to be the one Rolex to get. My FIL wore a DD every day for the 35 years I knew him. As someone else said, I think when you get off the forums, you tend to find that 95% of the real world Rolex wearers buy one watch and wear it, rather than buying one Rolex per week.

I had 2 ss Daytona’s,tt blue sub, ceramic sub, ym2, ttdj, 2 Pepsi gmt and a seadweller. I sold all of them and now just have a dd40 for everyday. I did keep a Pepsi and a ss sub to give to my boys when they graduate college though.

I had my BLNR as my 1 watch for 5 years. I’ve added a GS SBGW231 to my collection which I plan on wearing on my wedding day. I’m contemplating an OP (either 39 or the new 41) to replace my BLNR as I need something more under the radar. Bought an IWC Mark XV recently but I’m just not gelling with it.

Dark rhodium DJ41 with a smooth bezel and on Oyster bracelet. My only Rolex; may well be my only one since many of the others I am interested in are so hard to get and also I like some variety in brands.

For me, the DJ in this configuration is the perfect blend of sporty-casual and it's pretty much my daily.

Polar 216570. This is the watch that got me into looking at Rolex. It doesn’t have 101 homages floating around in various classifieds. It’s also immediately legible with its fat hands and white dial. I feel as though the Sub gives up a little bit here, and that’s not something I’m ok with.

Everyday watch.

Nope. Unless I die and one of them wants it.

I’d eventually like to get a lower profile black-dialed watch to wear on a NATO. I’ve got my eyes on an engraved 14060M. I’d consider an Exp I, but not sure how I feel about them on NATOs.

I have had a Batman for two years, which I wear almost every day. I bought a Suba no date not so long ago, which did not talk to me at all (the lack of a date at work disqualified him completely). Sub was replaced by Explorer II.

- I found the icon a little too obvious at the time
- Yes
- Yes
- I never liked the 6 digit Rolex to begin with and now with the hype, shortage and hysteria, no thanks
