14060(m) built tough sub, no complications, aluminum bezel, clasp guard, brushed bracelet, tons of water resistance. In the Rolex "beater" world that would be my pick

My Tudor NF. It's "pretty" to look at anyways, so if it gets banged up no worries. Plus it feels like it's build like a tank. I wish tudor came out with something similar but with a GMT function.

16550 Explorer II is my work watch, we've been through everything together from Maine to Hawaii and everything in between over the past 30 years.

U1 is my beater/beach watch. It has seen more countries than any of my others and still looks brand new. Incredible watch and wears smaller than the 44mm case diameter suggests. |

Right now I have a Seiko SKX007, but have been looking for a tegimented Sinn as well. Both would be great beaters. I work with my hands a lot for work, and have my hands in walls and around sharp tools. While I know my Rolex could handle it, it just feels like a bunch of unnecessary scratches.
I also have a G-Shock for times I know knocking into hard objects is likely. |

It would really depend on what you need out of the "ultimate beater." That could range from a Platona to Casio G shock. The worst many might do is jump into a pool or fall asleep on their arm, for others it's extreme sports, heavy yard work, etc. It also comes down to income to some degree. One man's beater submariner is another man's dream watch and most prized possession.
My beater, for the real dirty work which would damage bracelets, etc. is a Casio G. I think it's called the Riseman. I'm hoping to get an Omega Speedmaster Pro next year for some beater work.

Among the Rolex line, I think the Explorer II or Submariner are probably the best day in day out references available.

Speedmaster Pro.
As far as Rolexes go, they're all pretty much the same level of "toughness" until you factor in simplicity. In that case, an Explorer, OP, or Milgauss with no moveable bezels or added movement complications would probably be the best "beater"/least likely to break in some manner. The Explorer (and DD) has an improved shock absorption system compared to the others, according to Rolex. |
