Let go 15400 Blue for 15500 Slate

Gentlemen, I need your opinion of swapping my beloved 15400 blue for the 15500 Slate. I prefer the new movement of the 15500, it’s the right fit for the case, boosts 70h power reserve, and super neat to stair at. In addition, the minimal dial is exactly like the dial of the minute repeater “supersonnerie”. I also like the new slate grey dial, it’s neutral, elegent, and easy to wear.

I have a blue 15400 and personally wouldn’t make that trade but based on what you said it seems to be a good move for you.

I'd rather have the blue 15400, and don't care about the movement or power reserve.

If you like the 15500 better, then do it. They are both great watches.

I like the blue dial but I prefer the grey. At first I didn’t like the omission of ‘automatic’ on the 15500 dial but now I prefer it, after all why do you need telling that it’s an automatic watch - pointless text.

Sounds like the right move for you, but you may need to change your user name after the swap

You should be pocketing some money back here. I would estimate at least 5k depending on condition of you 15400 maybe more.

If its a straight trade then hell no.

Sounds like you’ve already decided you like the 15500 better. All that’s left is to make sure the trade value is balanced.

Look forward to seeing the incoming on your 15500.

This. I certainly wouldn’t regardless, but if it’s what you prefer, make sure the terms are right.

I think the 15500 dial is more attractive than the 15400. As AshAP says, who needs the word AUTOMATIC on the dial? The only reason is to visually balance the text above, but actually, less is way more with a meticulously engineered Royal Oak dial. Once the 15500 get more widely released they will undoubtedly eclipse the 15400.

I personally wouldn't do it, but there's no reason you shouldn't if you like the 15500 better. With 15400 blue prices right now, you should also pocket enough to pick up something with a blue dial -- maybe an OP36, IWC, or Omega of some sort -- if you're afraid you'll miss it too much.

You and I disagree there my friend :)

I love the 15500 and it is a stunning piece (wasn't that hot on it when it came out) but in my book the 15400 classic look is hard to top. I wouldn't mind owning both in diff colors. I don't see the 400 being eclipsed. Just my opinion of course.

I have an upcoming black 15500 allocation which I like but I would trade it in for a blue 15400, 15300 or 15202 in a heart beat. While the black and ruthenium dials are beautiful watches, that AP blue is just on a whole different level of beauty.

Well actually the 202 dial is the classic RO look, which bizarrely has the AP logo at the bottom of the dial, one of my bugbears, but I've gotten used to it as it was born before me.

Do it, don't worry about hype or popularity of blue, the grey is a very elegant and versatile color. It's also more rare but that shouldn't matter if you buy what you like.

Yeah, of course. Just saying .. the 400 is classic comparing with the more modern looking 500. End of the day, they are all gorgeous I think. I would keep a blue.

This has been my choice but I think it’s primarily because I already have a blue dial AP and I have a 5711 blue dial on order, no one needs 3 blue dial watches.

Well since there is no right or wrong, I need to see the 15500 in the flesh first to make a final decision. Getting in line for the blue will be a long wait, but is it worth waiting? I know for a fact that the blue dial 15500 will hold value better than the grey or black.

I would never trade a watch I considered "my beloved" but if you do, never call your significant other "my beloved" just in case they happen to read this post and begin to wonder what's in store for them.

Get whichever one you prefer. IMO, the 15500 aesthetically is the superior watch and time will tell on the movement side. The dial is off on the 15400 because they put an undersized movement meant for a 39mm watch into the 41mm case.

If you prefer the slate, then sure why not... personally I prefer the blue 15400 and would only switch it out for another blue 15500, and even then its a questionable move for me

My view on it is that you the 15500 is in production, you can always buy it later even if it takes some time. the blue 15400 blue dial on the other hand was a watch with a lot of fans, the prices are doing really good too. Hold on to it and see how you feel in a year.

I wouldn’t do it. I already own the 15500 black dial and the AP Beast 25721. AP blue dial is purely magical to stare.

Do you find the legibility of the slate dial tough?

OP - I would keep personally keep the blue dial.
