It's a watch but it may also be a piece of a collection.
I think piece is usually in reference to one piece of many.

I use piece, watch, reference number, nickname… whatever comes to mind when complimenting someone’s new watch. Doesn’t make a difference to me what term folks use to describe or compliment a wristwatch.
