Would you... Chrono 24

Firstly happy new year!

Now back to the thread

If a buyer contacted you to sell a watch you were selling, outside of chrono24 which saved you 6.5%?

I understand it's against their terms so morally is it bad?
Furhermore would you rather the escrow protection etc?

No right or wrongs just curiosity here.

So what the rest of you are all saying is that you would NEVER buy from a private seller...

Because there are ZERO assurances when buying from them.

I would make sure to go through the site only and not deal with someone off the site unless I knew they were local and could meet.

If I buy on Chrono24 I always use trusted checkout. That is the only way to be safe, we have seen dealers with long time positive feedback being a scammer. Saving a few % can be loosing 100% in a eyeblink.

I sell a lot of watches on Chrono24. I'd walk away simply because the seller is trying to avoid paying both the fee owed to chrono for allowing you to find the watch there, and eliminate the buyer protection you have with the escrow service.

For me paying the fee to chrono is just part of doing business...... if he's looking to avoid those costs, he's also willing to risk a violation fee from chrono in the search of profits.

There's a right way and wrong way to do things, and to do business..... find another watch.

You sound like you're the seller in your example. The buyer is taking the risk here if its a wire transfer, not you. Morally bad, yes lol.

I just bought my 1968 GMT from Tarrytown Jewelers and dealt with Josh through the entire process. I found the watch on their site, but they like others also post their watches on Chrono 24. Prior contacting Josh I never knew that the watch was also listed on Chrono 24. I say all of this to reiterate what others have said, "Buy the dealer not the watch." My experience was perfect and I was able to buy the watch for $700 less than it was listed on Chrono 24. I had to wire money to Tarrytown Jewelers, but after weeks of interaction with Josh, I was completely comfortable with the transation.

fwiw, a seller on there told me you are contracted with them and have to pay a fee for a certain period of time, no matter how you sell it. Sounded weird to me, but this seller seemed to know his stuff and we did a beautiful transaction...

It was a hypothetically as I only sell via escrow transaction
So declined all advances

But during my latest posting, on chrono so many people wanted to do a deal away from Chrono. Obviously leaves me up to potential robbery etc so I avoid.

Many seemed extremely transparent they added up with their online presence phone numbers made sense, willing to do business at their work place which Is a well known company in one case.

BUT...

The whole time I didn't see why? As the 6.5% comes out of my end.

Thanks again for everyone's input, I do enjoy the responses

from my experience, side deals often don't work out. People who initiate them, in my experience, often prove to be a waste of time. I have bought that way at times but gotta be careful and nervous sending money based on trust. We all want to get a good deal and a good price, but truth is, Chrono or ebay deserve their fee, there'd be no deal without them.

they are high. If you sell a lot, you get a deal if you have an ebay store, and pay a monthly flat fee. I'm just used to ebay, been a member a long time now and not all that familiar with Chrono. Maybe I should try them sometime, but my activity is generally light.
