15400 vs 15710
Hi all
I had more or less decided on the 15400 black dial. Went to try it with my Wife. Great service and the lady recommended me to try other models. Bad move Tried the diver, the roo black theme with the red needles, roc. Really don't like the chronos, I prefer the clean look The diver actually made my heart sing. It's so comfortable and easy to wear. Love the size and most of all the wrist presence Still like the 15400 cause of the details and the whole finishing from dial to bracelet is simply outstanding. But i know I can't wear that often. The Wife is on the 15400 side as she felt I look great with it and she doesn't like the diver cause of the rubber strap. She felt that the strap doesn't look good and commend the price point. What are your thoughts? If it helps I have a gmt2C, subC and a pam 372 currently |

Well, it sounds like you like both 15400 and 15710 about equally and the wife likes the 15400 better. So no brainer to choose the 15400 so that both of you are happy. Unless you like the 15710 more than you may consider that instead ( but potentially upsetting your wife? ). From some of my friends who go watch shopping with their spouses, it seems WAF ( Wife Acceptance Factor ) does factor into watch purchases depending on the situation, even though she is not the one wearing it. And since you mentioned her opinion in your post, it seems that WAF is a factor for you.

Tough choice - two GREAT - yet different pieces.
I would say it depends what you're looking to get out of it, and what style you prefer. Or --- you could just get the one your wife likes!!! 15400 - GREAT everyday piece. Classic AP iconic design all around. And you get the iconic RO bracelet. What more do I need to say. 15710 - another great everyday all around piece. (I've done it) a little more casual than the 15400 but still remains versatile. One of the best in the Offshore line and it maintains a lot of the aesthetics of the RO --- That probably doesn't help. So--- looking at what you have in your collection -- I would go with the 15400. You've got the sport watches pretty much covered (not that the 15400 isn't sporty!) but gives you a slightly dressier option - with the iconic RO style. Just my .02 Good luck!!! |

The correct answer is both, but 15400 first. Once you have that you will soon venture off toward the ROO and then its all downhill from there. Well worn path.

I'm with your wife. I love the look of the diver but just can't get myself to jump on a watch on a rubber strap. I much prefer bracelets or leather.

15400 for sure. No question about it.
The good thing about the 15400 is it can be dressed up i see many people who wear suits everyday wear a 15400. And its very shiny and pretty flashy compared to your other collection models. To be honest when looking at your collection you have a lot of steel sport watches. Have you thought about maybe going gold or buying something a little more dressy such as a DD36,DDII,DD40?

You could always get the diver and add a SS bracelet to it, the you have the one you love and have the bracelet for the wife to be content with.

Based on that that you already have several steel watches go with the Diver!

Go with the 15400 first, and then add the diver later when you can; that's what I'm trying to do.
I went 15400 first because: - my wife also liked it bettter - the watch is more suited to an office environment (and slips under a shirt cuff better) - more details in the tapesstrie dial on the 15400 since they updated the diver - you get the AP bracelet, which is the BEST on the market. It's currently my only watch, so I wouldn't worry about that being a concern. I think you are less likely to scratch the bezel than you would be on the diver since the diver sits higher off the wrist - more chances to hit it on something.

15400 vs 15710
You honestly can't go 'wrong' with either.
They are both great pieces and the Diver is a GREAT piece to enter the AP world with. And many do. (I was one of them) and my daily now is a ROC. They are both very versatile (in my opinion) --- some will debate and say the Diver is less versatile than the 15400 -- to each their own. You could add the bracelet to the Diver as well --- and that gives you more options. Key thing is here --- make sure you buy the one that YOU really want --- that's what matters --- you have two great choices on the table here. Besides...as many will attest...once you have one...you're going to want another!!! Cheers Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I agree with others that the 15400 would be a better entry into AP and a better compliment to your collection. True, it is another steel sports watch but the RO bracelet is a work of art. I was very close to pulling the trigger on the 15400 but had a chance to get my hands on a 15202 and couldn't pass it up.
Besides, you've got to milk that WAF while you can. I figure your watch collection = WAF +1 so if you go with the 15400, you've got at least one more in your pocket. Good luck and we'll look forward to the incoming.

Thanks all. I think i am sold on the 15400! I just really like the whole classic feel of it and the finish just amaze me!
On the other side, once i pass the WAF for this one, flipping can be an option further down the road hehehe The RG looks fantastic!! But not at the moment as i know my grail RG watch would be the Daytona RG black dial ( maybe one day!) |
