FC Diver - Anyone have regrets or prefer SS?

I’m seriously considering getting a FC Diver as my first AP. It’s going to take a huge chunk out of my collection to make it happen, and I’ve long lusted over the regular Diver and 15400, but the black/yellow just seems to pop for me.

To do this I’d be moving my BLNR, a DSOTM, and probably my Omega Spectre SM300. I really don’t think I’d get bored with it but it’s a lot of money.

Anybody have one and regret, or go all-in and never look back?

I’d go for it. You can get those all again. The bond might be tough. I only have the Reg 15710 and regret not getting the ceramic when I had the chance at the boutique!

My other option is to flip a Hulk as well but I love that watch, but true both are earlier to come by than the Spectre.

The FC diver has been my most worn watch I’ve ever owned after 15 years of collecting watches. Mine is around 6 years old now and still looks new (other than the rubber crowns showing minor wear). It is also the most comfortable watch I’ve ever worn and one I miss when not wearing it. That being said I don’t think it’s great as an “only” AP. While it’s a fun and sporty weekend watch and looks amazing on yellow rubber I would go for something more traditional for my only AP. However, if there are more APs in your future I would 100% go for it. DavidSW has a new old stock one on his website.

Ugh...that pic is not helping :)

I want a Diver and 15400. Either one is a huge investment for me and would
Be my only AP for the foreseeable future. What’s driving me towards the Diver is that, while a 15400 might be in short supply they’re still in production so easier to source than an FC diver. I’m afraid the more time goes by the less likely it is I’ll be able to find one.

Depending on your wrist, 15400 might actually wear bigger than 42mm Diver. Own both, I will go with Diver as first AP. Less delicate and versatile too. Between CE, FC and SS, I prefer traditional material. Steel polishable and cheaper for part replacement. FC case cost 4 grands and ceramic bezel 2 grands from AP.

Go for the ceramic. Not much more money at all and you get the nicely grained bezel as well as the more symmetrical triangle on the interior movable bezel.

I actually don’t care for the orange on the ceramic at all. I generally like Orange on watches (have had more DOXAs than I can remember) but this one doesn’t do it for me. If it were the yellow or even just all black I would.

I just got one fairly recently, largely due to the pic above he always posts! Love it, surely you will too! More ammo below for you.

Both FC and CE divers are very cool watches, you should get one if you like it, for me FC/CE diver are superior to the 15400

I had an SS Diver and 15400 for a couple of years. I think the Diver is the only watch that I’ve sold and then missed,

I think both FC and CE divers look great. I recently just had this decision to make as well. My only real concern was the durability concerns. I am not sure if this has any validity but I did read somewhere that FC over long time is more prone to wear and maybe even some problems seen with the cases as they were fraying? Someone please correct me if I’m wrong. Not sure if I read this about AP or FC in general.

Go for it, altho CE would be my first choice, shame the FC has the old rainfall style brushing on the bezel.

I thought AP took care of those though at no charge? Or am I thinking of something else?

AP only replaces FC from earlier batch case-by-case basis. Wear and tear is not covered. If AP don’t deem it as manufacturing fault, the cost to be borne by owner. For 42mm Offshore case, it’s 4 grands.

AP was the first in the watch industry to use FC and some of the early models had issues (Alinghi, GP, etc.). Sharp edges would round and fray. AP changed the resin to make the FC harder and help prevent wear. My FC case still looks like the day I purchased it.

Though there was an issue with earlier versions, separately, i dont believe the material to be as durable as some others.

Ive seen latter Divers (and models like the GP and 44mm) still look fairly worn around the edges, bezel etc...
