Advice re repair info please
I would appreciate a little advice please. Be much appreciated. We're in the UK, in Edinburgh Scotland.
I bought a 116201 oyster bimetal rose gold white roman dial (used) from a reputable Rolex offical outlet a couple of years ago. I gave it to my father as a present. He dropped it and it stopped working so he took it into said retailer. We assumed (and I believe he was told) it was sent to Rolex. Had an email today (from the retailer) with no info from Rolex but advising new glass and crown as well as a service. We were not aware either of those were damaged. The email says "The Rolex watch you left with us has been professionally examined by head watch technicians" then goes on to say Rolex have advised the replacement parts. I have asked them to forward info from Rolex which has so far been met with silence. I feel as though they are pushing the additions which might be unnecessary. Should we be given info from Rolex and/or can we contact Rolex to discuss the work? You can imagine for example wondering whether or not the crown does actually need replaced. I feel rather as though the retailer wants to up the cost, not necessarily Rolex. Thanks for any enlightenment on this. |

I talked with RSC directly and they serviced it. You can get the watch back and do the same. There’s no need for a middleman. Your dealer might have a certified technician on site and Rolex may not have seen the watch. If they did there should be a Rolex estimate. You can ask to see it.
That said, Rolex Service will frequently replace the crystal and the crown, as they did with my watch. The crown’s threads wear with time and while they have it all disassembled it makes sense to replace it. The crystal will have nicks, scratches and chips they see under magnification. My service was for a gold model which cost US$900. |

Thanks for your reply.
Unfortunately I am seemingly not privy to the information received from Rolex due to "sensitive account information." Hmm They are claiming the additions are marked as essential. Sounds like minor chips to edge of crystal and a slight dent on crown. My father is unfortunately surprisingly heavy on things. Therefore I have to agree with my mother who immediately said he'll just do the same again! We would then lean towards said parts not getting replaced- unless truly essential! We are going to ask for the watch back. Maybe it'll have started working again! I must admit, I would like to examine it's condition myself before sending it back ourselves. |
