Crown spring
Just got my day date back from service
When I unwind the crown it does not pop out it seems that there’s no spring in the tube Is it normal not to have the crown pop out after unscrewing the crown?

After you unscrew it does it pop out if you start to turn it clockwise to wind it?

Really depends on the length of the winding stem. If it's at the minimum length you won't see much spring action. If it's at the maximum length it will spring out a lot.
Never really thought about it, but watchmaker and end user will have a different view. At odds in a way. As a wm you will tend to have it medium length or will lean toward the shorter side of acceptable if one had to choose. The longer side of acceptable from a wm point of view it will seem like a poor quality job and our urge is too shorten it. It simply requires more force to to secure the crown. Doesn't feel nice. This is in the context of a Day Date twin lock crown with the smaller spring which shouldn't be overly "springy". |

Thanks for your information
My watch must be on the short end of the tube because it has no spring action
