Sub insert identification

Appreciate some expert help identifying my bezel inserts

I've had the spare (No.1 in pics) for quite a while and was thinking about selling it. I attempted to swop it out first to see what it looked like in my sub, but was unsuccessful and reluctant to risk damaging it (and my thumbs ).

Anyway I've had it for a long time but never really inspected it close up. Realized it is a little different from the one I have in my Sub (No. 2 in pics)

I've tried in the past to get my head around insert identification
Struggle with it to be honest ..

Would be great if you guys can identify these for me and will also help with me valuing No.1 if I decide to sell it.

My sub is a late 1680 (circa 1980) .. I've always thought the insert (No.2) was a 'mid-font' .

Thanks in advance ..

No.1 is Service-Insert - artificcially fade.
No.2 is regular ca. 80's insert (IMHO not period correct for a 1680) - should be MKIII

Ok thank you very much for that

Just interested ..

What gives the 'artificial fade' away ? It seems quite even to me and I would have thought the back would have faded if bleached ?

Could the late production (1980/81) 1680s not have been released with this insert (No.2) ? . Or were they all MKIIIs ?

#1 spot on, service, artificially faded by looks - NOT a MK3

#2 Could be original to the watch, the MidFont Flat Four variants were out and in production. Tail end of 1680s 78-79 had Mid FOnts

Could be.

The 1680 goes up to 6.3/6.4 mil serial for 80 - he says his a 1980 (not likely but depends on serial number). This was when the Sub inserts were switching to the post MK3 era with the Flat 40 inserts (there are 4 Flat 40s I believe - without digging into my notes)

In 1979 / 80 the 1665 starts seeing the tallest of the Flat 4 Mid Fonts, some of the 1680s in the 6.1XX range have Flat 40 variants.

So "could be" ; ) . It is just (maybe more) likely to have had the insert replaced at service in the 80s that shipped from factory, but "could be"

Then it is even money it came with a Flat 4 insert. How long have you had the watch? Did it have that insert when you purchased it?

I agree. I also have this mid fat font insert as a spare.
