Probably because I am actually going to have the watch in hand soon and I know it is going up. By how much , it is hard to say, but I would BET anyone on this forum who thinks otherwise... If we take an average of Chrono prices say twice a month rest of the year, and throw out top 2 and bottom 2 outliers; I think that gives a good indication of where the market is at and then we can follow the trend. In fact, I might just do that if there is any interest here on TRF for me to do so. Quote:
If I cannot make it, I am driving up Monday. My Bentley is the Pelican and will get me there in under 2 hours... I am telling you DAVID IS THE BEST!! Quote:
WG Blue dial is still calm for some reason, did not get the JM affect like YG Green (at least yet). If you did not love the watch, I would not get it.. I actually love all gold watches so I WANT the YG green dial and will wear it (with great wrist awareness). It is not just an investment for me, it is a watch I want. I actually have and love the blue dial too, and I think the YG Daytona effect will pull the WG w/ Blue up eventually (maybe not as much as Black Daytona C or White 5711, but I think it will start to climb well above MSRP soon). I think these are the TWO Crown Jewels of the Metal Bezel PM Daytona Dynasty. And I like both better than Platona (me personally), not to mention they are a lot more comfortable. I will and I plan on posting some wild and crazy incoming shots for this one. Quote:
Mayors is the largest Rolex dealer in the U.S. and I have from Corporate that they cannot even take deposit. There are None available, no ETA, etc. Mayors has actually had to return some deposits even because of shortage. And keep in mind Mayors has a Resume type of system. I have bought nearly $200,000 in watches so if anyone could get some kind of priority, it would be clients like me. I would be VERY cautiously optimistic from any AD that says they can get one in any timeframe. Though I DO think it is possible, that smaller low traffic ADs might have one stashed away. So I am not saying they are NOT out there, but I spent A LOT of time calling around the U.S. I seriously only found like 4-5 that actually had one and all going over $55K or over (except David thankfully). This watch is just not to be found. Perhaps Rolex is holding back, perhaps some big NY company is hoarding many, perhaps a network of greys is conspiring, maybe its aliens (also Greys..) who knows, but it is like what the 5711 went through right now and you can make a similar argument for that spiral. But the bubble never bursted with 5711 and I don't think it is going to with this watch either. So there is something very real going on for the effect to last with the 5711, I guess we'll see in upcoming months if the same is true with 116508 green.. My prediction is YES! Quote:
That is another very plausible explanation. The Jade/Green color makes sense why it is so popular in the Orient. Thanks! Thanks! |

Is the YG Daytona w/ Green dial the Next 5711?
I just took a picture of the Green Daytona next to the Platona (as someone just compared the two). Both are amazing but if I had to choose one, regardless of grey market price, it would be the Platona!
And another picture with Rose too, just for good measure! Huge congrats brmeyers on your purchase! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Yellow for sure! It feels much more special when I wear it. I’ve never seen anyone else wearing one... I saw one in the window of a St Tropez AD last year, 1 month after I bought mine. Wish I bought that one too now lol. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

In 2017 I popped over to Geneva and went into the Rolex store there on the hill.
I tried on the 116508 (which was on display) I didn't like it, the weight just wasn't something I liked. I was offered a discount but politely declined and went on my way. Last December I sold a Patek and agreed to met the buyer in a 2nd hand watch shop for both of our safety. After selling it, the owner had a 116508 and I agreed to try it on again as I was left regretting not buying it first time around. The price he had it up for was £25k. Again, I tried it, didn't get on with it. I'd long known JM was a fan of this reference (the keen eyed of us had noticed he commented on a picture of Jonah Hill wearing it on instagram - calling it the sleeper) When he proudly showed his on on Talking Watches I knew it was going to spike. And it did. £42k now, and here I am with two opportunities to have bought it. Then it hit me, everything I despise about this hobby and industry. So what if I had bought it, I would have bought a watch I didn't like. The money would have been irrelevant. I love the look of this model, but wearing it just isn't for me. This hype is another example of the instagram craziness that is unfortunately ruining everything. |

I agree if you do not like it, don't buy the watch.
Some do buy as investments so there is nothing wrong with that, but personally I buy only watches I love and I do factor in resale a bit. Personally I never saw the 116508 in person until recently and it was never on my radar back when the prices were reasonable. But I love the watch and I definitely plan on wearing it. Watches as a tradeable commodity is really taking off lately and it seems the blue chip "stocks" in the watch game are sports model Rolex SS, Patek Aqaunaut/Nautilus line, and Richard Mille and AP now with 15202 and some others. That is if you go by watches that are climbing in value and selling over retail. So it is definitely a watch game now, and if you carefully follow the trends (like a trader does), even if you pay over retail you still can come out ahead. Even though I paid $53K , by the end of the year, I project at even preowned, I will come out ahead. I guess we'll see Quote:

Im curious how the green dial looks in person, is it as deep/vivid a green as seen in some photos? I did see the 116509 blue in person and felt the blue dial was not as bright a blue as in photos. Beautiful watch.

The sunburst effect comes out in sunlight and bright light. The YG in normal light is a dark green and sometimes blackish looking. But it is easy to find some light to get the Sunburst to come out. It looks great either way but of course a bit better when the green is vibrant w/ Sunburst! 2019-06-22_12-55-14.jpg 2019-06-22_12-54-53.jpg |

Is the YG Daytona w/ Green dial the Next 5711?
Will the same happen to the blue in white gold? I could imagine it...

I know it is speculation, but my thinking is the price is going up and I'll be able to wear for a while,
enjoy and still come out ahead whenever I decide to sell. You could have bought a 5711 last year for and wore it for a year and been profitable if you sold it now, by quite some margin. I have a strong feeling the prices of the 116508 Green are going to continue to rise based on: 1) Me following the prices of this watch for over a month, 2) seeing how Grey dealers have been selling for higher and higher during the course of this year (easy to see in TRF Rolex for Sale section). 3) talking to my AD, grey dealers and watch buyers that confirm what I am saying. 4) There seems to be a genuine shortage 5) And YES the John Mayer Effect |

I think it will but not as dramatically.
Right now prices on 116509 are moving slowly, but that could change. Perhaps it will be pulled up a bit, but I don't think percentage-wise as much as the white 5711 has performed. Interestingly, the blue WG Daytona is orderable at my AD, while YG Green is not orderable, no list you can be added to, nothing. My AD says Rolex just doesn't have any and my AD (Mayors), has a large stack of orders that cannot be fulfilled. |

Well prices are going up in the U.S. and based on the comment above, also the U.K.
I have talked to many watch sellers and they all project the price will keep going up at least here in the U.S. for the near future. Maybe someone else from Asia can chime in on this comment: |

I just spoke with a Patek AD today. He said they used to be able to order 5711s and once ordered there was a 5-10 year wait to actually get it. Now they stopped taking orders completely and the only prayer you have of getting one is if you ordered at least 3 years ago. Even if you spend well into 6 figures it's a no-go. They make 400 per year and there are over 400 stores worldwide so some never get any. Retail price is around $30K and Chrono24 ASP is $74.5K. That's today. Can't say what tomorrow will be.
Rolex seems easy by comparison. |

Great information, thanks! My Patek AD said that 5711's are getable but you have to build a resume. My AD says they get them usually in batches of 4 in a year, but not every year. Seems strange, but that is what he said.
So I think it depends a little on the AD, how many they are allocated, and how they work their lists, as all operate differently. Yamron here in Florida has some weird list system where you pick 2 watches you want and you get strong position on the one you want most and weaker on the 2nd. But only two. They will not let you put your name say on all the Nautilus and Aquanauts. He told me there are harder non-application watches to get to right now than the 5711, like the 5990 for example. But overall on the average, I think you are right, even IF you get on a list for a 5711 with a decent resume, it is still a several year wait. I speculated with this thread that maybe the 116508 might be the next 5711, I did not say it is there...YET. But I am telling you my AD, Mayors, is one of the country's Largest Rolex Dealers and they have no lists, no deposit, no nothing for this 116508 Green, which makes it 5711-ish. Quote:

I dont understand the obsession with this model. It doesn't look nice IMO.
The hype is driven from the John Mayer video in a market that is best described as the best it's been ever. No thanks. Give me a good sub over this anyday. Sent from my Pixel 3 XL using Tapatalk
