still can't love the cyclops. good weight, doesn't look oversized on my wrist.

I've gotten over the cyclops but I still would have preferred it without one. At certain angles, you can see what it would look like without the Cyclops and it is pretty awesome.

I think the whole history about the cyclops not being there due to technical limitations is pretty cool. It helps me accept the decision a lot more.

The cyclops does play into the whole "Big Sub" stereotype, which to a degree is true but there is a lot this watch has going for it that is not in the Sub and I don't just mean a Red Line.

Gorgeous, congrats. After wearing for a while you may get used to the cyclops.
This watch obviously has pedigree, but think of it as a whole new Rolex watch.
A 43mm new dive watch, it's always had a cyclops, just like the Submariner date.

I always wonder why they didn’t put a cyclops on the SD4K? It’s technically possible after all. Very glad they didn’t of course.

I think they should have kept the entire lineage of SD of it having no cyclops.
Makes it different from the Sub.
They should have kept the size from the SD4000 and add the redline, remove the cyclops.
that will be perfect.

i guess the masses wanted the cyclops therefore this is more popular compared to the SD4000.

I had the 11660 and i think it's beautiful.

i am glad they didn't and its going on my radar now.
ever since i had the 11660, i started to appreciate SD more compare to the Sub.

I've gone the other way on the cyclops. Didn't want it originally, now I love it. Remember it's there for a reason - it actually DOES make the date much easier to read. After you wear it for a while I think you'll opinion will change. Congrats by the way.

Congratulations on your new acquisition.
I actually prefer the cyclops. It was one of the new features that drew me to it. It has a clear function that I appreciate.

Congratulations. I am an owner and the SD43 is my all time favorite Rolex Diver. It all works for me. The size, bracelet, dial, bezel, red text and even the cyclops. Once you wear it for a while it will be hard to part with.

What size is your wrist? Looks a bit on the smaller end. Either way, I would try wearing it above your wrist bone and see how it feels there.

Well said

Having owned a 5 digit SD and a DBlue, I can safely say I couldn’t stretch my arm out long enough to read the date with my 50 year old eyes

Nothing wrong with the cyclops. Its part of the models evolution and makes it more useable.
I Love the SD43

Congrats and will appreciate your thoughts as you go considering your already thinking it may not last for you. I’ve had mine for 20 hours now and wouldn’t change a thing. As a 16600 long time owner I think this offers a nice level of differentiation. The increased Size is awesome to me. It actually feels more stable on my wrist given the larger base. The bracelet transitions from the lugs is just right. The glide lock clasp is so valuable to have.

The dial color is what really excites me and the way it plays off the maxi dial and ceramic bezel. Again more differentiation over my 16600. And finally the cyclops. My 50 plus year old eyes love it. Also the average Rolex fan who thinks he know the brand confuses this for a sub which is a bit entertaining. I’m not talking about the fans on this site. We’re all nuts and I mean that with the utmost respect.

Here's a DIY from 4/2008:

http://watchmakingblog.com/2008/04/23/cyclops-removal/

Other TRF posts have mentioned that an improved adhesive allowed Rolex to put the cyclops on the SD43 crystal - something not available when previous SD's were manufactured.

One thing's for sure. I'm not tryin' it!

I hear ya buddy. I'm nearing 50 and just got my first pair of readers about six months ago. Finally gave in. My step-father always tells me he doesn't have bad eyed, just short arms LOL

Congrats! I agree on the cyclops comments. Great on a sub, not as much a SD. Regardless I hope you do enjoy the watch and keep it for s while. It really is a beautiful watch.
