Two day old Explorer ii running 10 seconds slow...thoughts?
Hello, I received a call from my local AD Tuesday afternoon and they told me they have my Explorer ii in and it’s ready for pick up. I picked it up in the afternoon and give it a good 40 winds and have been wearing it for at least 12 hours for the past two days. I’ve currently lost 19 seconds over the last 48 hours. My question is, do I wear it for about a week and if it doesn’t self regulate itself, take it back to the AD and have them send it in for service or should I take it back now.
I notified the AD and they didn’t seem to really care. I just have a hard time sending this back to RSC and having them open the case back on a brand new Explorer ii. I love the watch though. Really striking on the wrist. Thanks in advance. |

The watch is still new so will break in and settle. Try the timing again in a weeks time then report back.

Thanks. That’s what I was thinking. Don’t want to jump the gun. Every other Rolex Brand new from an AD has never been out of spec.

I’d recommend wearing it 24/7 for a while. If I leave mine on the dresser for 12 hours I’ll lose time but if I wear it all the time I’ll get +1.6.
While this is within spec, and 10spd is unacceptable, give it time to adjust. That being said I’ll be surprised if it adjusts down to +/-2 from that level. Still, you’ve got time (no pun intended) to see if it comes down. Five years to be exact. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Sounds like it needs a little tune up. The RSC is the perfect place to have this done. As to worrying about it being opened up, Don't worry. The RSC will open it and use new seals when the close it and then it will be tested for integrity.

Thanks Charles. I hope you are wrong with the improvement but I feel the same. That’s a big game of catch up it needs to play.

I’d keep is for a week or two, ensure its manually wound daily and, test it again in a while.

I will give it two weeks. The AD knows and they would make a note in their system. Hopefully it just corrects itself. Watch is beautiful though!

Still running 7 seconds slow. Also, I just noticed that can hear the movement slightly through the case back. I don’t believe that the movement should be able to be heard through the case back.

Wear it for 6 months. Wind it at least once every week. Let it settle.

6 months? That seems like a while to regulate itself. Never had these issues with my other Rolex’s. Somewhat concerning, especially now that I noticed I can hear the movement.

I’d wait a few more weeks, but feel confident it will be professionally regulated by the RSC if you send it away. For what you paid for the watch, you fully deserve it to be within the claimed COSC specs at no cost to you. |

Absolutely no need to send it back now. Let it break in, try letting it rest in different positions, but basically, don't stress it for now. You've got plenty of time. And then ask yourself if it settles in at +- 5 seconds a day, if that's worth having your watch opened prematurely and being without it for a few months.

I'd give it some more time. Wear the watch and store it consistently in the same position at night (i.e. dial up, or on its side). Hearing the movement is normal if you put the watch up to your ear.
As I remember, my Explorer was running slow the first few days, but after a week it was within +1 second a day. |

Don’t worry, the movement is inside and it is working. You do not need to hear it.

What exactly do you hear?
If you hear it ticking while you have it against your ear, then all is good. |

I noticed when. I love the watch up my ear I can actually hear the movement inside if I move the watch around while I’m having a close listen. I do hear the ticking as usual.

Yeah that is completely normal. It is a mechanical watch, there's metal parts moving in there.

I would bring it back to AD for calibration. They have the equipment and watchmaker to do the job. I think a big hassle for you to send it back to the RSC.

I’d send it back now. Shouldn’t be outside +\-2 seconds.

Try Time.gov It is official NIST time in the USA. Track the time daily for a week using this site, and you will have a good idea how "off" your movement is. Some apps for smart phones are not very accurate. |

I’ve found Toolwatch.io to not properly account for internet latency. WatchTracker seems to be spot on. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

If I were in your position I would not be happy. I would not settle for anything less than +2-2. Even my Z Blue, 2014 never serviced is running less than +2. My Pepsi is almost at 0. I find their accuracy an attraction of the brand.
