Annoyed with AD

So, I got a call from my local AD today and they said congrats we got you a datejust. which would be great news... except thats not the watch I ordered 10 months ago I requested an OP 36 or 41. they tell me I should be happy to get anything. which would be true except I already own a datejust and I am not trying to get into the flipping game so I tell them thanks I guess ? call me when you have what I originally asked for. They of course give me the usual spiel about not getting any steel sports models for like probably 5 years. So I tell them good day hang up and this is where it gets interesting... 15 min later my phone rings again and the lady tells me she can get me a submariner. I am sort of shocked but I am like OK ( I guess thinking in my head I would be stupid not take a submariner even if it was a little more then intended to spend. So I am like uhh just out of curiosity what changed in the last 15 min. She asked me what I am talking about... awkward silence.. she then said whoops your not who I meant to call got to go bye very rudely. Look I understand it was a mistake but the lady could have apologized especially after sitting through spiel about no one getting any steel sports yada yada. And if your wondering what AD this was it was the same one that was on the news in February for its sales people getting busted for selling there entire inventory out of the back door to grey market dealers overseas. the whole thing left a bad taste but rant over.

They sell plenty of steel sports models. The watches come in; the SAs call their clients; the watches get picked up.

The SA accidentally dialed the same number twice. This is how the sausage is made; it’s not pretty to watch.

I would say if they wanted you to get the watch, you would already have it. They have no intention of getting you a watch. Find someone with a better connection and use their AD.

This is the same AD who was busted? Yeah, run! Plenty of awesome ADs and sorry she treated you that way. It was clearly manipulative to say no steel sports for five years to get you to buy the day date. Good ADs want you to have what you want.

That's completely hilarious. I would not have pushed back at all and simply came in.

If anyone has any recommendation for a good AD in chicagoland ( I am in the burbs) let me know. There is a new one opening in my town in the fall. I am thinking about trying to be the first person in line like on black friday lol but my luck they would open the store with 0 inventory on day one.

At this point I’d go grey if in your shoes

LOL! They offer something you don't want and are put out when you are not interested. Then they offer you something else you didn't ask for, but when you accept, they withdraw it.

How would that go down in a car dealer, travel agent or grocery store?

They are so out of touch with reality that they may have even lost their AD status and don't realise it! Just as well it didn't come to anything. If you had gone in for the Sub they might have handed over a Seamaster or something.

She needs to go back to TPG School. They teach inventory management much better now. She's got the "F-Client Expectations" class down pat.

Really sounds like they called you out of spite over what transpired earlier between you and them.

If so, that is pretty nasty. Hopefully, it was just an honest mistake on their part.

Maybe it’s time to look at other brands. There’s a lot of great timepieces out there.

So many customers, so few watches

Sorry to hear OP. I’d speak to a different SA or better yet a manager or better yet, get to know the owner.

Never should have used them in the first place. There track record shows they will never treat you fairly. Find a new AD at any cost.
