Ladies ROLEX OYSTER PERPETUAL DATE 1972
Hi There! I'm new to this forum and looking forward to feedback. I recently purchased a LADIES ROLEX OYSTER PERPETUAL DATE, 1972 from a jeweler (through eBay), for my wife.
In my search to confirm authenticity, I brought it to a local jeweler, who advised that the watch is indeed authentic. One thing that I noticed, which I didn't ask my local jeweler (yet), is that when I shake the watch to wind it, I can hear the winding mechanism...and it's pretty audible. My question is...Is this a characteristic of it being vintage? Reason why I ask is because so many folks advised that the winding mechanism should be very quiet and I'm concerned that there could be a problem with it. Here's the listing on eBay if you want to talk a look: http://www.ebay.com/itm/151333606999...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT Thanks much! |

Don't shake your watch to wind it, unscrew the crown and wind it in the normal fashion.

Nice watch, good price. Wind it, don't shake it! The winding rotor is there to meep the watch wound as you wear it, not to there to have the daylights shaken out of it

Ahhh....ok. Thanks Joe100! That's the part that I didn't know (good to know). I have a Rolex, but mine is a manual wind, so I don't have exposure to the automatic wind portion. My local jeweler told me to wind her watch 4 times and then wear it...the motion will keep it wound (as you had noted).
So as far as the sound that it makes, when I mimic the motion of moving hands/wrist (to allow it to keep wound), the sound of the winding rotor is fine? Thanks again! |
