Taking a GMT to Dubai?

Hi all, new to this forum, and Rolex watches.

For the past 5 years I have been wearing my trusty Seiko SKX007 for almost every thing, be it work, leisure or vacations and it has served me well.

Last week I upgraded to a GMT Master II 116710LN and this will be my one and only watch.
Will be wearing this one to Dubai in 2 weeks time for a vacation, so a lot of sunbathing and swimming.
Will the intense sun and salt from the sea be ok for the watch?
Being that this is my first watch that I have spent 4 figures on I seem to want to baby it more than I did the Seiko.

You're going to get varied answers but I wear my EXP II everywhere typically on vacation. From Australia, Greece, Thailand, Belgium, etc. It's seen all manner of sea, surf, mountains, you name it. The sun it should be fine but after being in the ocean, I'd at least give it a fresh water rinse off.

Just rinse the watch off at the end of the day after salt water activities. It can take it all.

In first place congratulations for your new watch, it’s a great choice.

In second - do not worry.

I have the exact same watch for nine years and, despite the fact that I wear it in rotation, believe me, I did basically everything possible with it and it’s still running and looking great. I’ve taken it around the world, from very cold to very hot places, swimming in the sea, swimming pools, sauna, you name it...

You have a fantastic watch, wear it in good health and enjoy it.

Don’t touch it. Don’t even look at it.

The harsh rays of the MidEast sun will melt the watch case and bracelet into pure scrap metal.

My advice is to leave the tags on and put it in the safe.

You would assume someone paying 10K for a watch knows a little about its durability, use, metal hardness or something ..

But buying a watch and coming here for advice because you going to wear a watch for the purpose it was actually made.. is ridiculous. Same level as:

They're in the process of learning and asking for help - I can forgive them for not knowing and trying to understand more. As someone who DOES know just how durable these watches are, why not just enlighten them instead of putting them down? If these threads offend you that much why not just say nothing at all?

Also, it's a little bit of a stretch to say the watch was "made" for ocean swimming under the sun. A car is made to drive, a watch is made to tell time. Is it so "ridiculous" for a first time buyer spending close to 10k to be extra careful?

I agree. The unnecessary harshness and sarcasm toward new members/owners defeats the purpose of this forum and is just plain rude.

I don't need to know it just as I do not need to know I have to rinse it after having been in salty water. It's called commen sense but people seem to lose if when they buy a Rolex. First world problems.

I have the same watch. It's my travel watch, this why we bought it right? GMT, time zones?

As for the water, I have taken my GMT to the beach and pool endless times. Perfectly fine. You can even scuba with it if you want!

Absolutely fine!! You’ll have a great time, just give the watch a little rinse at the end of each day to get rid of the sweat, salt and sun cream and you’ll be fine.

Dubai is a low-crime city. Wear the GMT and enjoy it. Two weeks in the sun and surf won't harm it. As others have said, a fresh rinse when you get off the beach should keep it looking nice.

Yes on the tiles , I’m used to having carpets in the UK so was a little careless when I moved to Dubai

One rule with rotating bezel and beach is not to use it until you rinse it after the beach in fresh water. Rule two is to not to apply sunscreen on the watch, otherwise wash with soap. In terms of Dubai safety, no one will even turn head for AP or Patek, so your Rolex is safe. Enjoy good times, have some great food here, and relax.

You may find that you'll do a little less sunbathing because in two weeks it will be over 100 degrees Fahrenheit maybe 38 Celsius. Many hotels will have chilled swimming pools though
