*Newbie alert* Looking for my first Rolex

Hi All,

Firstly, I'll introduce myself....

My name is Mike and I live in the NW of the U.K. I've always had a thing for nice watches, my first was a Seamaster Quartz mid-size when I got my first 'proper' job back in 2000. My current watch is a 2016 Omega Seamster 300m co-axial in black which is my daily wearer.

I love the Omega but I've always wanted a Rolex Sub , it's hard to explain the reason, just always admired the classic look, quality and longevity of the brand I guess! It sounds very materialistic, but it's an aspirational thing.

I've been looking around for a few weeks, and have today seen a 2002 14060M online from what I understand to be a reputable website with a 'proper' shop. It has the Rolex green box but no papers other than a Rolex invoice for a new bezel insert this year. The watch is up for £4K and comes with a year of warranty.

Does this price sound about right? This is a major purchase for me, and represents a lot of saving! Naturally I'm wary, are there any particular questions I should be asking?

Thanks in advance,
Mike

The watch seems priced a little high. I would buy a complete example. Box, papers, warranty card. The providence in the long run is worth the price you will pay for it. I would also look for a preowned 114060. You appear to be close for a older watch that may need a service or have other issues. If you factor in a service at $600-1000 you are there.

I can identify with your quest and history. I have a Omega mid quartz I bought in early nineties. Still wear it. Just bought a Submariner on line for $5K. My first. Sleep with it on my nightstand. Love it. Most I've ever spent(so far). I have little experience in advising you. This venue is a good start.
Good luck

I would look for a modern 114060. It's newer and not likely needing service. Also it feels significantly more impressive on your wrist. You can thank me later.

I think you're right.....Just need to find one for sale here in the UK that can be bought for a reasonable ££££!

If anyone can recommend an AD or private seller who will do a deal please let me know.

Thanks again,
Mike

Enjoy the hunt and there are tons of great deals here in the classifieds. Just picked up my last watch here and got a great deal on a new tt sub (so many good sellers here). Good luck and good choice, the classic sub is timeless.
