Is dial on Aquanaut made from metal or rubber?
Does anyone know the material that is used for the dial?

I'd assume some type of metal, like brass or steel. The fascinating part to me is the way the dial is both embossed and has a unique paint finish that seems to catch light and provide different coloring effects.
It has amazed me how beautiful these timepieces look in pictures but then how much better they look in person. |

The Khaki is is as flat as matte Green can be. It is much better in person. Luv them both.

That would be impressive if a rubber dial would do the sunburst effect.....

If it's indeed metal. How did Patek cut the deep grooves like in the 5066 reference ? Not arguing just would like to know ? Ive stared at the face for 20 years of owning her !

I looked at few dials for sale on line who CLAIM their legit Patek Aquanaut dials . A few offer pic of the back side . Looks like thin brass plate that that front is pressed with a non metal material.

Wow I am surprised all the “Patek experts” have not answered this already, I will have a go though.
I would think the pattern on the Aquanaut is engraved on to the brass dial using a burin and a pantograph, then painted. It's the same technique used for the tapisserie (waffle) pattern on the Royal Oak. I know Audemars Piguet sub-contracted the RO dials to Stern Creations founded by the Stern family, so It’s not too much of a stretch to assume Patek Philippe will use the same technique themselves. It’s only a guess mind, I think I read an article somewhere about it. |
