New here and new to rolex. Looking to get my first one and have been advised by family to go for a datejust w/ fluted bezel. Thoughts? Also, anyone know of retailers in SoCal that actually have stock and don't price gouge? Greatly appreciate any feedback!

Welcome to the forum. A Datejust is a great choice. You should be able to order one, from an Authorized Dealer. Price will be MSRP. Google where your nearest AD is, go in, introduce yourself, start a relationship with a Sales Agent, and see if you can order one. Good luck.

Family “advised” you tp buy a DJ…? Here’s a thought- pick the watch you like rather than what someone tells you to buy. No price gouging from ADs, the price is the price stated on the website.

Probably a young man enjoying his first real success, in his career, who wants a Rolex, and discussed it with his family. Nothing wrong with that…. Kat Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

Great choice for a first Rolex. What other watches do you have?

Datejust 41mm with smooth bezel on Oyster bracelet. Save the 2k and forget the fluted bezel,IMHO.If you want a dressy DJ get the fluted bezel and Jubilee bracelet.

I vote for fluted on Jubilee! It’s so much nicer. If the OP would prefer an Oyster bracelet and plain bezel, then an Oyster Perpetual would be a good choice.

I’d second this buy what you really like. They are on the whole all nice watches just for me some say like a Sub or a GMT are perfect.

Fluted bezel /jubilee beautiful configuration ! Shouldn't be a problem with a AD.
Take your time shopping AD's and you will have your watch sooner than you think.Good luck! |

Welcome to the forum.
I think a DJ Fluted bezel with jubilee bracelet is a perfect 1st Rolex and could be a one an only. I go to San Diego a lot (born and raised) and I suggest the boutique in Fashion Valley. Tal has been able to get me a few watches. You may have to wait but shouldn't be too long for a DJ. Good luck in your search |

Welcome!
If you have decided the DJ, I’d second fluted bezel with jubilee. But don’t rule out the sub date or sub. Although hard to get, not impossible. Try those watches on in AD. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Welcome to the forum.
The OP asked for thoughts so there’s no right or wrong answer, just opines from the forum. My thoughts would be to think about your sense of style, and what kind of person you are in terms of lifestyle, career, activities etc. Certain references might reflect more who you are. Nothing wrong with a DJ, it’s probably the most popular choice and covers all the bases but there are many more to consider. Enjoy the process. |
