This Christmas please...

This Christmas please take time to remember...

That there are those much less fortunate than many members here, those who deal with all kinds of horrible circumstances day by day. A simple, random act of kindness can really make someone's day.

That there are men and women in far away lands standing watch in order that we can enjoy the season and go to bed at night without worry. Personally I'm blessed this Christmas that our "kids" that are serving are home safe and sound for now. (Justin and Trevor we're unbelievably proud of both of you, USAF and USMC respectively )

That as we're relaxing around the tree, warm and snug there are police officers, fire fighters and EMS personnel on watch 24/7 dealing with sometimes the most horrific sights, sounds and smells that will haunt them until the end of their days. I've had some terrible calls around the holidays, those memories will always be with me.

Remember those that we've lost, both two legged and four as they will always be missed but it seems to sting just a bit more this time of the year. (Miss you Bosco and Max, every single day.)

Slow down, say something nice, do something nice for those around you. We have no idea what people are dealing with at this time of the year, there are many out there carrying excruciating burdens and many can use a hand up.

I wish all of you and yours a very Merry Christmas!

Great post, I have two sons deployed and a third just finished the police academy, I am more afraid for him being on the street vs overseas when he served in Iraq.

Outstanding post, my friend! We take so much for granted, that if someone tries to break into my house tonight help WILL come. If my car catches fire help WILL come. If my heart gets clogged up and I go down help WILL come. That I can sleep peacefully tonight and not worry about someone dropping a bomb on my head or rounding up my kids to be taken away and never seen again. That the aircraft I am on will be guided safely through the skies and that if there is a problem help WILL come. That if I or someone I love gets sick there is help available 24/7 in multiple places.
I've bought gifts for my family, given to my charities. Maybe it's time for me to get out of my comfort zone and physically help someone who really needs it?

Well said Tim.
There are many Military and Emergency Services personnel who will be on duty over Christmas whilst the rest of us are 'kicking-back' with a drink.
My Daughter is one who volunteered to be 'on-shift' so an officer with kids could be home with them.
Let's hope for a quiet, uneventful time for them all and a bit of common-sense from the wider community.

I echo the sentiments of others here- A well thought out post reminding us how blessed we all are and how thankful we should be for the unspoken sacrifices of so many.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays

This is how I think of our protectors and responders each morning and night - thank God for your service and may you come home safe and well after each shift/tour/day/night.

But, Tim, it is especially welcome during the Holidays to regard their efforts while we are enjoying family, friends and fellowship.
