Just wear what you want. If it is a watch, you cannot replace easily or cannot afford to replace, maybe some common sense and prudence is advised.

I wear everything I own when and where I get the inkling. Naturally, the old saying "Don't be stupid" still applies.

I can agree with most of what I have read. I almost see the watch as just EDC and a traveling companion on vacations. There have been times where I look down at the sub or GMT while at the beach or enjoying a sunset or Mountain View, and it just makes it a little bit more enjoyable.

I do recall one time in Milan, walking a dark street at night, and by myself that I felt I was being sized up by a group of guys. I discreetly pulled the Hulk off and put it in my pocket. Nothing happened, and I’m not sure if pocketing the watch would have saved it, but that is the only time I felt self conscious about what I was wearing.

I have no particular feelings about it and don’t even think about it.
Second nature to wear any of my watches anywhere anytime.

If i had to worry about wearing a watch going on a holiday they become useless to me and I would sell them.

True story, I was almost robbed about 100ft from where this photo was taken Some guy put birdseed near me and in the mass of pigeons hitting me, he tried to get my wallet from my back pocket (it was in my front pocket). My Pelagos did not draw any attention or he wasn't interested in it.

Life is too short to get beaten or killed for your watch. Get a travel watch. To me that's way more liberating than wearing a watch you have to worry about.

Damn. I have my Daytona with me anytime I go to a racing event! It just feels right. Just as I would being the moonwatch to a rocket launch if I ever get the chance to attend one.

I have to give the guy credit, he saw me coming a mile away. Straight off a 14hr travel day, still hung over from our wedding the day before, searching for any place open for food before going to bed at 8am local time. The pigeons were a nice touch, as was the shop keeper waving a broom and yelling at him. The only precaution I would take next time is a nap before going out in public.

My wife was nice enough to laugh at me and take a picture of me looking stupid with the pigeons after too

We need a photo of this

I get it, travel with a nice watch isn’t for everyone. I’ve never been fussed about it.

I picked up a grail in Alicante (Spain) 3 years ago, from a private seller, a VC Patrimony 85180. This is the seaside with nice beaches, very chilled.

I seized the opportunity to spend a few days there with wife and kids, while I took posession of the piece. The hotel had a safe, but it was stressful because they have the master key to the safe (digital code system). So any member of staff with the key could have stolen the watch. I won't repeat the experience. Either I take one luxury watch and it stays on my wrist 24/7, or I only take beaters.

I've worn all my watches all over the world, including full PM Rolexes and Patek.

I've never had a problem, probably because I pay attention to where I am, and don't put myself in situations I'm not comfortable with. I'm perfectly ready to tell someone to f off if needed, and nope out of a place if my gut tells me it's a bit sketchy. I've also probably been a little bit lucky. I'm pretty sure I narrowly avoided being kidnapped/robbed once.

My wife, on the other hand, drives me nuts. While in literally every other scenario, she's one of the sharpest people I know, my beloved will open her wallet, fan out her money to count it whilst in the center of a busy bazaar in a country where what she's counting is the average monthly wage. I feel like I spend most of my travels with her making sure she's safe.

Depends where you're going. London has had some negative publicity with theft recently, so caution might be advised. If it's an area with high crime and sketchy police, might be better to wear the Seiko.

It's easy to say I'll just insure it, but if you or your family are the victim of a violent crime, it might have been better avoiding wearing something flashy that got the attention of a criminal.

Don't bring more than one per person and just wear it always. Of course if you go to shady areas or meeting someone at your room lock inside the lockbox. I even wear my watch at the gym or the pool so no problem there.

Taking a grail watch on vacation

When traveling in Europe with the family decided to use a Casio to avoid worrying:

Have travelled to Germany and Spain 6 times during the last 2 years due to work and on each trip had wore Omega / Zenith / Rolex
watches without any issues.

I bought them to be worn, used, and to be happy.

I live in NY, and 5 years ago I never thought twice about what watch to wear, and wore it everywhere.

But I don’t wear nice watches into NYC anymore. I know a bunch of colleagues that stopped wearing nice watches to NYC now.

I went on a great ski vacation in Mammoth Mountain this past January preceded by a handful of days in Las Vegas, and really enjoyed having my GMT BLNR on my wrist! It was a memorable trip as I got to see U2 in Vegas at the Sphere then drove up to Mammoth. The watch was a great companion and hooked up with one of my Rolex buddies - who was wearing his Seiko? Unforgettable venture!

I wore my Daytona on a cruise to multiple countries. I have never felt so free and liberated. My life became fully focused and I was inspired to become a better man. Just kidding, it's just a watch. Like PADI said, if a watch can stress you out, why bother owning or wearing it?
