40MM Pam?

Hiya!

I'm looking to trade my IWC Ti Inge for a PAM. I have a 7in wrist and am not sure on the best size for my first Panerai. The 44 and 44+ watches look like monsters. I'm a little concerned that massive watches are a bit of a fad and won't be timeless like some of the more common sized luxury sports watches. Any suggestions for a first PAM model for a 7in wrist (on the lower end scale considering what I am trying to trade)? Thanks!

Um, with a 7in wrist you can easily pull off 44. Heck you could do a 47...372 is a sweet one

Well Panerai has been making 47mm watches for 8 decades so not sure that qualifies for a fad. Their large watches are timeless and what they built their brand on- Italian Navy diver watches that were big enough to fit over dive suits. I would try on some Panerai before you decide on a size or a watch for that matter. You might be quite surprised by what you find. Besides- 7 inch wrist- you can wear 47mm easily!

Gotta try 'em on to be sure. They make 40mm Luminors for a reason, so, if that's what you like, go for it. To me, after trying them both, the 44 just looked "right", so that's the way I went.

Take your time. It's a fun trip.

I started with the PAM 48 and regretted it about 2 weeks later (quick flipped it to a 312 and then on to a 233). Try the 44mm first even though it feels like you are wearing a house on your wrist the first few times you take it out. But then, you begin to see the light. Plus, if you just can't get use to to it, its much easier to flip a 44mm/47mm for a 40mm than it is the other way around. Good luck.

As an owner of 2 40mm PAM's (244 and 310), I don't regret buying them at all but I do have a wimpy 6.25" wrist. A 44mm on my wrist definitely looked ridiculous. But you can definitely pull it off with a 7" wrist so I'd recommend trying a 44mm first before ruling it out. I would think a 40mm would be too small for you.

Panerai are supposed to wear a little big, not huge necessarily. At 7" you are completely fine for 44mm and up watch.

How's this look on me?

6.5"

Okay, rather than tell you why you should buy what you say you don't want, I will say that I understand. I tried on 44mm Pams and did *not* like them, plain and simple. Too big, too heavy for my taste. I don't even know the circumference of my arm -- I just know I didn't like it.

I found the Pam 244 (pictured at left). It's GMT, which I prefer, and absolutely gorgeous. I hate the OEM Panerai straps, so I got a custom made one. I love this watch and it's in my regular rotation.

I went with PAM 244 because i thought PAM 88 was too big for my 6.5 wrist.

I have a 6.5" wrist and a base case PAM fits me just about perfect but the 1950s case is HUGE

I have a 6.5inch wrist and find it a little uncomfortable to wear anything 44+mm to the office. Love them on the weekends though! Get what feels right for you (everyone is different). My 47mm says hi!

I have a PAM49 and have never regretted buying that model - nearly 4 and half years owned and still no intention of flipping it.
