New Grand Seiko 8-day announced...
As many will be already familiar with the SBGD001 (now renamed the 201 after the new Grand Seiko branding), a 20 pieces per annum Platinum model with triple barrel manually wound 9R01 Spring Drive movement, and a smattering of diamond dust on the white dial, there now comes an alternative or companion model in the form of the SBGD202.
Rose Gold, black dial with gold sprinkled on it, to mimic the starry night sky on a cloudless night above the Micro Artist Studio, where these two models, and the Credors, are hand finished and assembled. Tom…better get your chequebook dusted off and your pen filled with ink, you’re going to need them both fairly soon! https://monochrome-watches.com/grand...-review-price/ http://watchesbysjx.com/2017/06/intr...d-sbgd202.html http://www.watchprosite.com/news-cen...16/1498042235/ |

Strictly speaking, the Platinum 8-days is an exclusive model – production hasn’t increased to more than the 20 made each year, when first revealed.
What you meant was that the 9R01 movement remained exclusive to the SBGD001/201, but there must’ve been some indications/feedback that a less clinical/technical version existed, which Grand Seiko has reacted to. |

Definitely a cool watch with incredible finishing but there are so many other watches at that price point I would buy first personally

If I were lucky enough to be shopping for $40K+ watches, this would definitely be on my list. A beautiful watch all-around, with an amazing and truly revolutionary movement, and hand-finishing that rivals watches costing 2-3 times as much.

Nice way to round off the year, and something exciting to look forward to early in the new one. Will be interesting to read your comparison of both models, given their significant design and specs differences. |

To be honest I was on the fence for a while, almost 100k on two Japanese watches might not be such a good idea and I already got flak from friends for the 8 days. But in the end, I just couldn't get it out of my mind, it's the closest watch to a Dufour Simplicity and it's a lot of watch for 50k (in today's market where a vanilla Nautilus goes for similar value on the second hand market), if one don't mind the name. |

Congratulations! It’s a beautiful watch and once you get it, you’ll have two of the best watches made by Seiko. $100k is a lot of money, but the two watches you have are well worth that and more IMO.
