Icon7 Which Weber grill do you recommend?

So, I am in the market for a new grill!

Any recommendations?

Some criteria:

* Weber (right?)
* gas (can't be bothered with charcoal or smoking or whatever)
* grilling usually for 5, but the occasional larger groups (10/15)

Not sure about the overseas market but here in the USA I'd be looking at the Weber Spirit E-310. $499 3 burners and natural gas or LP. That's the bare bones bottom line 3 burner. You can go up from there with a side burner, full SS, bigger cooking area. If space is an issue, there's the two burner model.

I had a Weber 3 burner that I bought in 2000 and finally put it to rest in 2016. The only reason I didn't keep it was because it would have had to be put in storage for 3 months and I was afraid it would have been a draw for a mouse or two. The push button starter still worked.

Don't forget to get a good cover for it.

I'm finally getting settled in the new house and I'm pretty sure the 310 is the one I'm buying.

Hope this helps.

So, you would take a Spirit 310 over a Genesis II 310?

For me, the Spirit would be fine. And $200 cheaper too.

Weber E-310, no side burner (never use it)

Genesis II 310 would be the natural choice for many. Unless you think you need the extra space the 410 provides, that would be the choice for me.

That said, go charcoal! It's more fun.

It's been so long since I purchased mine they probably don't sell the exact same model. It's a genesis but unsure which model.

Considering your criteria however I would compare the surface area and go for the largest surface area.

Although the Spirit is a Weber it would be my thought that the Genesis line might serve you better in the long run. I don't have anything to base this on other than cost, but I would expect it might be made from better materials based on cost.

The only thing I've had to replace thus far for over 7 years of use are new grill covers at about every other year, propane, and grill brushes.

I have a Weber Silver Series (Genesis?) that's hooked up to the house's natural gas supply. Not having to change tanks is a miracle.

Thanks for all of the comments. Much to think about.

The difference between Spirit/Genesis/Genesis II isn't very clear to me....I wonder if anyone has any thoughts?

How about the rotisserie function? A worthy upgrade?

Side burner worthwhile for occasional use?

Regarding the gas line, that's more for heavy use? As opposed to a vacation/weekend home?

Not real sure on spirit vs genesis. I think gen II is just this years update of the Genesis.
I've never used the additional functions so it was an easy decision for me.
Gas line if you plan on leaving the grill in one spot and don't have time to exchange propane tanks. No problem for me, I have three tanks and last long and easy to exchange.

Happy owner of a Genesis special edition here. (I believe the special edition was an upgrade to the grates from cast iron to stainless steel.)
Very satisfied with this model but I believe that most of the new Genesis series comes with an open lower section, sans sides and matching doors. Personal preference there, I like having the bottom enclosed but many prefer the open style. Load the Weber app, lots of information there.

https://www.weber.com/US/en/grills/g...-310-gas-grill Here's the Genesis link for comparison.

Having the Nat Gas line is convient. An extra cylinder will ensure that you never run out of LP gas.

I have had my Genesis for 7 years now. No issues what so ever. I just keep it covered when not in use and give it a good clean once or twice per year.

I am planning on replacing the flavorizer bars (those triangle things that run over the burners so no food drips in them) with some aftermarket ones from Amazon this year, as the current ones are rusting.

I may also upgrade the porcelain coated cast iron gates with some stainless steel ones, but that isn't really needed as there is nothing wrong with the cast iron.

Like others said, just keep an extra propane tank and you don't have to worry about running out.

On this note, the Weber brand covers are notoriously bad if you live in a non southern California climate
After reading a ton of reviews to find one that would hold up I landed on this:
https://www.amazon.com/Kingkong-7553.../dp/B01GFVKKFM

I've only had it since August/September, but so far so good

^^^ Best to have both. One for grilling (Genesis) and the traditional kettle for slower/indirect cooking. Both are built to last.

I've had my Genesis for 10ish years or so. It stays outside in the snow under a good quality cover, and I've never had any issues with it. It came with stainless steel grates, and I would highly recommend upgrading. Easy to clean, no residue. Mine runs on propane. I've cooked everything from high heat steak to slow/indirect pulled pork and even a frozen pizza or two!

Yea, I have been meaning to replace my Weber cover for a few years now, but it isn't so bad as to where it doesn't function. Just looks a little haggard.

With that being said, I had my eye on the one you posted, as well as this guy

TRF convinced me to get a genesis. I use the side burner so I got that model. I also went with cast iron grates. They hold the heat better and give great grill marks.

Also, don't bother with their BBQ cover. I had it for 7 months and it is so faded and crappy looking now. I'll get one of those other covers above.

I have the espresso genesis silver from Lowe's. it is natural gas hooked into the house so all I do is turn the valve and fire her up. Came with cast iron grates and that was my preference. No side burner as I never use it anyhow.

The spirit is the entry level and the genesis is the mid level, the summit is the top of the line. At least that is how it used to be.

For smoking I use a Brinkmann electric smoker that looks like the one pictured above. I much prefer electric for long/low temperature needs like smoking.

The webber Q 3200 grill is what I have been using for 5 years now with no issues. Cooks great every time. The clam shell design let me put an entire chicken with no issues.

Really appreciate all the comments and photos. I'm a real novice, so all this is really helpful.

Some additional questions....

Are bells and whistles like "infrared searing" worth the money?

Weber seems like a solid brand, but I've come to learn one can spend a LOT more on a grill. Like thousands more on a Lynx.... Any thoughts on that and Weber?

I can't offer too much help here.. charcoal user here. They don't really take that long to fire up.. 15 - 20 mins with a chimney starter. Love the flavor.. Anyways, I do hear good things about the weber Q series gas/electric though.

Here are my two Weber kettles:

Chimney starter lights up fast. Good time for any prep work..

All you need is a hot fire and a place to hold the meat near the fire.

Choose the size that will accommodate your needs 90% of the time. If you need more space for entertaining, cook in courses. When the grill is too big you burn a lot of gas heating unused space. Even on one burner you waste energy. Buy the everyday grill, not the once in a while grill.

Next find the grill with the most BTU in that size. Calculate BTU per square inch of cooking surface to get the grill that puts the most energy into the food.

I've never used a side burner and don't know anyone that does. I use side trays all the time. I used my rotisserie once in seven years. I never store anything in the cabinet (outside with the bugs and the weather). Infrared searing? Just use your oven, yeah?
