Just got the call for a Rolex Submariner Date...

I'm not that sure if I should go and pick it up...bought a NOS 16233 a few weeks back and now not really feeling the need for the Submariner Date. Should I feel bad for deciding to pass on it? It was going to be my first purchase at the AD.

What would feel worse? Passing on the watch or spending $8950 on a watch that you’re not crazy for?
Are you worried that you will not get called again if you pass on this? If so, I would tell your SA that as much as you appreciate being offered the watch you really have your heart set on ...
Otherwise you could buy it and sit on it and sell it down the road when the watch you want is offered.

My main concern is not being called again if I decide to pass on this. I could make the purchase, but would be stretching myself in order to make it work.

Why would you ever stretch for a watch you don’t want or a watch period. Pass on it. The next call after the sub isn’t a Daytona, so i wouldn’t worry about it too much.

You're right. At the time I made the reservation I had not made a purchases I have made now nor was I expecting the call. So, to double expenses would be unplanned. I'll give them a call.

I wouldn’t do it. Because buying this won’t get you closer to the watch you’re hoping to get. If the one you really want is highly desired then there are probably many other customers who have purchased more than just a Sub. And if it’s not that high one the list of watches being requested then you have a good chance if you’re being offered a sub.
Me personally I would thank the SA for the consideration, but you really have your heart set on xxx and will buy it immediately when it’s available.
My opinion.

That's exactly what I just did and ended up going fine. AD wasn't upset at all. He understood why I made the other purchase. The end goal is a Hulk or GMT Pepsi anyways.

Thanks and thank you for the level headed advice! I might've just pulled the trigger if I didn't post the question here.

If you don't want it, let the next person who truly desires it to have it. My AD texts me about once a month and have passed on a few nice pieces.

I paid $4300 for the NOS 16233. It is no longer NOS since I've worn it but still very very minty. No dings yet!

I was shocked too, that's why I went for it.

That's what I told the AD. I told him to let the next guy on the list have it but if he can't get rid of it, circle back to me and I will send the funds.

I agree with the majority that you should call, thank them for the opportunity, and tell them you are grateful for the relationship you’ve built and look forward to another piece in the future. They will not have any problem selling that Sub (you’re not putting them in a bind).

Who knows what the world, The economy, pandemic, will turn into. It is not worth risking your personal/family financial situation (I realize you have the extra money but why?).

You have two things to be proud of 1.) your 16233 and 2.) peace of (financial) mind. Congrats!

really nice DJ. Why buy a Sub you don't really want? It's not like the AD can't sell it to the next person through the door.

Perfect, plus I bet the AD now knows you're a great customer... not a flipper.

Just politely explain why you are passing....trust me he will have no trouble moving to the next guy on the list
