It's Hockey Season!

Living in the "State of Hockey," Minnesota, it's only natural to love the game. (Kids learn to skate at the age of three and four, and one's future chances as a high school player are usually determined by age ten or eleven.) I like college hockey the best, especially the WCHA, but I enjoy every level from high school to the pros.

I remember attending my first Minnesota State High School Championship tournament in the late 1970s. 125,000 people attended the weekend sessions at the St. Paul Civic Center, and Howard Cosell did the color commentary on TV. Many players who went on to long professional careers still say that playing in the Minnesota high school tourney was the highlight of their career.

My son-in-law plays for TPS-Turku in the Finnish professional SM Liiga. He suffered a fractured foot the first week in August, but he's been cleared to play in two weeks. I'm excited to travel to Finland for my first European hockey games.

Go MN Wild. Go MN Gophers. Go TPS. Go St. Cloud State.

My favorite cap is a U of MN hockey hat. Picked it up a couple years back when they won the championship, in MN, when Jordan Leopold won the Hobie Baker. I could have sold that championship ticket for a grand, but what a great time!

I'm a Mich. State fan first, I remember Ron Mason's rookie season at State, I was about 5years old then. But, I went to Mich. Tech., so, yeah, I like to follow WCHA also.

St. Cloud State? Where es dat, eh? That place was even colder than Tech. was!

As a Swede, of course one loves hockey.

Started learning to skate when I was around 5, and played until the age of 13-14 when I had to choose between hockey and football (soccer).

Go Rangers!

Cheers,
Joe
