Decision, advice needed.
I recently had the opportunity to try on a few beautiful watches in NY but given the exchange rate, duties, taxes, etc, I decided to hold off and see what was available back home.
I initially contemplated getting the AP 44 RG in the summer but since I have the 42 ROO, I decided to hold off but its hard especially looking at some of the beautiful pics posted by fellow members (next year perhaps lol). Anyways I have narrowed it down to two, I am lacking a MP in my collection, love them both, 5205R-001 and ALS Grande Lange 1 MP (easy answer would be why not just buy both right?!? ). Are there any reasons from personal experiences or knowledge why I should not own either one of them? Thanks in advance! |

Tough call, both very nice, but with a white dial I just prefer the Lange 1 MP, also over the Grande Lange which wears quite large. Dial detailing is superb as is the movement finishing.

Both are stunning. Tough choice between the two. For me the Lange wins out just slightly, as I prefer the thinner profile of the Lange 1 over 5205r.

As others have said, both are beautiful. My personal choice would be the Lange

Light dial id go with lange but if were talking about black dials then the 5205rg won that race.

I love both, but would probably go with Patek.

The Lange detailing on the moonphase is the clear standout in between the two.

I have always been drawn to the 5205 and owned the Lange. If both are equal, future values might be the tie breaker.

It is a tough call lol. I have a larger wrist so the Grande Lange's larger pressence fits better than the smaller sibling.

Can't say I like the GL1 MP placement on the dial, as such I prefer the Patek.

Any reason: value retention would be speaking in favour of Patek. Plus, although Lange is at the moment beating Patek in terms of quality control, Lange is German. Patek is, has been, and will continue to be the flagship of the Swiss watch industry which is the standard bearer of watch making.
Be sure to shop around internationally. In most cases Swiss prices are still extremely competitive with vat refund. I know two official PP dealers here in Switzerland. Let me know if you want more info. Good luck on your decision! D |

Tough call. These are my favorite two MP watches by far, and both near the top of my favorite of any watches out there.
I would probably give the nod to the Lange though. It's hard to beat the size and details in their MP display - it doesn't hurt that it is a little bit cheaper either.

Both beautiful watches with the moonphase. Both brands are well respected with fine workmanship. But I would say the Annual Calendar is a complication that sets the Patek apart here.

Thank you for all the insight and replies so far...not making the decision any easier though lol.
Can't really go wrong with either which is the problem, the Lange detailing on the MP is gorgeous, PP is well PP and its AC movement, love the movements on both watches, not too concerned about the resale value/value retention. The Lange is modestly cheaper, perhaps use the savings towards the AP 44mm RG next year ? sigh... |
