Icon9 I love good food, but...

Had some wonderful chili last night, but I completely forgot that beans can be a 'gut bomb'...
Went out to run 45km, only did 35km, not a bad pace but f#kc me the pain in the gut with every step...

*Rant over*

Chili is great for ice fishing and watching sports on TV. Otherwise, you get what you got.

Yeah, that's the thing, no fatigue or anything, probably could have done 50k if it wasn't for the pain... Oh well.

Ran a 23km on Saturday, so 58km in three days is OK I guess...

Nothing better than chili with beans in cold weather.

It helps to keep you warm, both coming and going.

If you know beans about chili, you know that chili has no beans.

So you ate chili, which is a heavy dish, and then you tried a 45k run....pretty good way to torture yourself, if thats what you were attempting. You started of running and progressed to the runs....

But seriously, just mark it down as lesson learned!!

When I use to run half marathons, it was water, some gatorade and maybe something light before the run like a half bagel and some peanut butter on it.

The fact that you made it 35k with chili in you is a feat in itself

All I know and Bas is now well aware if you have chili with beans you have no business going on one of those long runs.

I had chili last night, went to the badroom and didn't have any abnormal bowel movement, thought all was good. Ate a light breakfast, sipped my tailwind during the run and pretty much after 20min it was pure torture until the end.

No way I would even think about running if a heavy meal like this was my breakfast.

Still my run was decent enough albeit unpleasant. 5 weeks to go until my first ultra marathon.

Hey Bas,
any adversity on a training run only helps prepare you to challenge yourself further on race day!

Good job!

And for the record. I really want to visit Mexico one day. The food looks amazing. A great cuisine is one that balances flavours. And the is what I see in Mexican food. I am pretty certain that there is no authentic Mexican food to be had in Australia (if there is, I haven't come across it). And this beans/no beans chilli debate is new to me.

It wasn't me but it sure is funny!
Congrats on training for an Ultra Marathon. The most I ever competed was a half marathon but that Half Marathon was harder than a Marathon, as told to me by a 3 time Boston Marathoner. It's 4 major hills up down up down,...just killer. Sadly had to stop running, hip gave out and had to have replaced at 50.

I commend you on your achievements, good luck in the Ultra

Also I think bananas might upset my stomach as well, I found my stomach to be a little 'off' every time I ate one before a run.

Good luck in the Ultra.
Marathons were enough for me during my active racing period.

I did learn to manage pre-race prep and it’s different for each runner. At your training pace, just a 5% improvement would give you time for a bathroom break.

Sound funny? Well, consider the alternatives...

This debate is new to me also, I always thought Chili con carne should have beans.

Didn't have diarrhea, just cramps during running.

I'm a newb when it comes to Asian cuisine, I really should travel through parts of Asia and try streetfood. I see these guys on youtube and the food just looks super tasty and healthy. No obesity there either.
