116618LB but at what cost?

I've been wanting a 116618LB, ideally mint from 2015-2017 for low/mid 20s. A trusted grey dealer here in Boston says he can get me a new one for 28.5k, which is more than I'd want to pay for new. 27.4 would be 20% off msrp and more palatable, even if a few thousand more than a mint recent used one that I'm primarily looking for. Question is, do you think that's worth it at 28+? For me I think it's more the principle of the thing than the actual 1k difference off what I think would be fair for new. Should I stick to my guns and keep looking, or just go for it? A big consideration for myself is that I only pay cash and thus need to buy in person, ideally locally.

Don't stick to your guns.

Unless you really need that $900.

In which case definitely stick to your guns.

DavidSW has one for a better price. (BNIB with full stickers)

I just bought his 116618LN.

I’d rethink the cash in person stance...

Cash in person always gets me my watches without sales tax from grey market dealers, so there's that

I’ve never had to pay sales tax on a watch from a trusted seller either.

Thats too much to pay.

I would aim for $25k brand new and around $22-23k used but in mint condition.

When you say you only pay in cash, do you mean you show up with a briefcase full of bills? Or that you pay for your watches in full at the time of purchase?

I bought a BNIB one from Tony (justrolexes) for far less than your price. He was great to deal with.

23-25 should be an attainable number. Check with the trusted sellers

Buy from trusted sellers and shoot for $24-25k. I would not pay more than that. You don’t have to...

Tony will sell it from 23700 to 24200 depending on year and how much he paid for it.

You will not get a BNIB for 25k from a TS these days.

With the correct market your goal is to get it for 26000 OTD BNIB

Check out santblanc dot com

then call and ask for Jon.

he can beat that price. then wire him the money.

you can't do face to face, but you can save the money.

True. I should have qualified my suggestion as getting “preowned” at that point. I never buy new. Across a few purchases, I can save many thousands buying preowned and get more watches.

I generally buy preowned as well for those same reasons. Last watch I bought new was a BLNR a few years ago, because there weren't any to be had preowned at a worthwhile discount, if at all. I would certainly prefer to get a preowned 116618LB for a few thousand less than a new one.

Sure you can. Gold Subs are slow sellers and I bought mine last summer for 25,500. Slightly used are still selling for 23,000 and change. I peruse the classifieds here on a daily basis.

Well technically you are wrong. MSRP for the 116618LB is 34,250 currently and has been for some time. Have you bought one lately?

Bought a Smurf from Tony not long ago for a better price. Granted it was not BINB, but 95% mint so I think that you should expect to get the YG version for around 25k.

Some prices from Chrono24, to throw into the discussion:

https://www.chrono24.com/search/inde...se&sortorder=1

P.s. It also depends if you are ready to hunt down a good price or if you just want to get the watch. Convenience always has its price and you can certainly get a better one if you wait for the right deal to come along.

Lol! Do you really think I meant MSRP? When many of us discuss a rise in prices, do you construe that as prices set by Rolex? I'm pretty confident that you knew that I meant market and gray dealer prices. Cheers 🥂 technically I'm right. And yes I have purchased one, fairly recently.
