Watchmaster wants people to sell to them

Got this message from watchmaster today:

"Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,

We would like to draw your attention to the fact that prices are at peak at the moment. In the coming weeks, prices will drop again, which is why now is the best time to sell your watch - don't miss this opportunity!
Get a free evaluation now »"

Why are they trying to persuade people to sell to them at this time? Do they know something we don't. Surely they are not being charitable by absorbing future losses for others.

They are in the business of buying and selling watches, they need inventory to operate. Simple as that.

Ask them for a quote, but sit down and brace yourself when you see what they’re willing to pay.

It's fearmongering.

Scare people and then lowball them even harder before they go broke or bust or lose a substantial amount. Or before the wife gets angry.

Because that is their business?

I just called them offering one of our TS’ GMT VTNR listed for $55k.

Told them $75k or I walk.

Got the $75k and will now send $55k to our TS.

This is how you Rolex, people.

They're buying the dip, stocking up in anticipation of a rebound? Expect a lower offer than two months ago though.

Beware this tactic. I tried to sell them a watch last year and what they do is give you a valuation and then sell the watch for you. They don't buy it outright. They service it so if they don't sell it, they charge you about 500 bucks for the service!

Just an update. They want it on consignment. No buy outright offer. They quoted a minimum net payout of £10650 for a 114060 which seems too good to be true. Please see the post above by DoricSpiker. Maybe they just want me to unwittingly pay for an unscheduled service.

No worries I am arranging a Disaster Relief Aid telethon concert for you. Swiss Watch Relief Aid 2022
Already printing up T-shirts and booked Bon Jovi and Sting. John Mayer was too depressed and declined.

I hear Eric Clapton is ok with auctioning off his old watches too, maybe he could donate a couple of Pateks to the cause .

So I just send them photos of my watch. They're not buying. They're doing consignment. There's zero risk to them. They take a 13% commission. And it won't sell if it doesn't sell for the minimum price that they promise you.

If anyone named Moose or Knuckles is looking for me I’m not here. And Paul has my check book.

Bingo. Its like a gold dealer, they always buy less than spot and sell slightly over spot. As long as inventory is coming in and out the door, they dont care if the market is going up or down.
