5172g or 5070g

Hi
Been debating between these 2 beauties
5172g can be had for a very good price for about $61k brand new on grey market, substantially discounted from its msrp
5070g is first love and they around in 70s (white dial)

Thoughts?
Any ownership experience ?
Thanks in advance

Both beautiful watches but I find the case of the 5070 to be too bulky. The 5172 is beautiful, a friend of mine has it and the color really pops and it's definitely more sporty/casual. The proportions are excellent and I really enjoy the art deco lugs. I think it is a sleeper and a steal at current grey prices...

5172 for me. Love me some syringe hands and stepped lugs. I have both versions, though am looking to move or trade the blue one.

I find 5172 more attractive.
The non cut off dial, the hands, and the color all included

I visually prefer the 5172.

This is definitely an unpopular opinion, but the 5070 always seemed "cross-eyed" to me. I much prefer the case size, shape and dial layout of any 5170 (especially the breguet dial versions).

In your match-up, it'd have to be 5172 for me, albeit I'd still prefer a 5170.

5172 would be my choice. I just find it better looking.

I agree re 5070 - it’s my least favorite of the three. Too much case and bezel to my eye. The proportions seem off.

Go with the watch you love

I have tried on several different 5070s over the years and the size and proportion is a bit off in my opinion. Many collectors don't care and buy a watch for pure value appreciation and never wear the watch. However 5070G prices have not moved in years, so take it for what it is.

The 5170/5172 are more modern design with better size proportion. They are great modern manual wind chronographs.

I have or had a number of manually wound chronos in my collection - datograph, VC Cornes de Vache, VC 47101, Lange 1815 chrono, 5170g, 5170p, 5070g, Journe centigraphe, etc. the 5070g is my favorite. The 5172 does nothing for me

More reply than you probably want but…

Chronos have not lasted in my collection.

5070 is a more interesting watch to me. More Limited production than I would expect the 5172 to be.

The lemania movement is beautiful as is the patek in house movement.

The 5070 may be a bit thicker on the wrist.

While I think the 5070 is a Beauty, I don’t see it as a watch I would add to the collection.

Its a serious watch… Overall if I am going to actually wear it, I want it to be an automatic and smaller and thinner.

Much happier with the 5940 also available at steep discount (for now) from its msrp

I had seriously considered the 5070… went with the 5170g… it didn’t last.

Final note, if it must be a Chrono, would prefer a 60 minute counter.
