Hello from the North East (UK)

Hello everyone,

As with most new members, I’ve been a lurker for a while but decided to sign up as I wanted to get involved in some of the threads. The forum appears well regulated (if not a little too much) and most of the members speak my language (WIS). I’m 41 and have been a watch (particularly Rolex) enthusiast (without the budget to do anything about it) and keen horologist for as long as I can remember.

Growing up as a young adult the thought of owning a Rolex was nothing but a distant pipedream. Fast forward 20+ years (with lots of hard work along the way) I am now in a position to reward myself with my very first Rolex. My tastes are very different to the average member, I’m not obsessed with the SS professional/sports/tool watches. I still love them, mainly for their history, tool lineage and aesthetic but don’t really get all of the hype around them all.

I have a 2 watch collection currently. My office (Mon-Fri) watch is a 36mm Raymond Weil TT Parsifal (Quartz) & my weekend/other watch is a beat up 40mm Oris Classic XXL moonphase which I treasure dearly. Both watches have special meaning to me and I will never part with them. Hoping to add a TT DJ41 champagne dial to my collection soon as my first luxury piece. I know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea but to me it’s just perfect and the quintessential piece to start my Rolex collection.

My local AD is Northern Goldsmiths on Blackett Street, Newcastle. The first store in the UK to sell Rolex – cool 😊

I appreciate the art of watch making and I particularly love pieces with complications. Hope that’s enough for now. Any questions please ask.

Mark
