Having a few Daytona’s I really appreciate the clarity of the 3861 dial. It is a great piece, and one that works in the rotation. I don’t really use chrono features, bit like the look. Too bad the WR is so bad on it.

I also think they did some nice things with the bracelet on the 3861. Now Grey Side of the Moon is also a pretty sweet one if you want some variety.

Cannot keep a speedmaster for the life or me

I feel the same...I love the Speedy on someone else's wrist, then I end up hunting for one, wear it for a week or so, and I'm done with it again. I must say the new bracelet is way better than the older ones and the 3861 dial is super nice! But at the end of the day, I must sell.....so currently have 3861 Sapphire listed =(

Looks good on a Velcro Strap too..

Looks like I’m minority here, I have only one SMP, I have worn it in all different situations and this one stays with me.
Cannot fault others buying selling or not on their like but the beauty is in the eye of the beholder

@brian great photos! Love your 321 that’s a different animal :)

I'm actually in the same shoes, got a 1861 actually loved the versatility of wearing it with dfferent straps etc. but moved it for something else now I've even added a NTTD seamaster still missing and keep looking at the new 3861 sapphire but not sure i'll wear it as much.

I have a Speedmaster and love it. I’m never getting rid of it. I think the difference for me is that I was a huge fan of the Apollo space program when I was a kid, so that really matters to me. Reality is that I might be happier with a Navitimer if I wasn’t such a fan.

Its not for everyone, but if you're looking to try a Speedy of a different sort, I highly recommend

I had a similar experience with speedmasters. 321 is the best IMO

I’ve tried twice before but third time did it, I don’t know why I sold it twice before, but I just love it now and wear it more than any other watch. I’ve had it on straps the first few years now it’s on the bracelet and feels like a new watch. I’ve had it for 7 years now.

I think it depends on how many watches you have in your rotation. I know how people feel about wearing the speedy. When it was just the speedy and my explorer I, I would alternate every other day, but as more watches joined the stable I found it hard to work into the rotation. I will have it. The watch puts a smile on my face when I do wear it and I always think to myself "why don't I wear this more"

Great thing about the Speedy line is there's one for everyone. I love the way the movement looks on the manual wind versions, but if it's anything like my Speedy Racing to wind, I would not enjoy winding it.

Currently on a black rubber strap for the warm months

Over 20 years I’ve had over a dozen in and out. I preferred the tritium dials. I always wanted the Japan special edition racing dial, but those have become way too expensive.

I also highly recommend the 321, I have not been able to take this watch off my wrist...I love everything about it. It quickly has become my favorite Omega.

Lovely watch, great photography Brian!

I've had a few Speedmasters as well. I didn't bond with them either, and they're now history. I like the new super racing whatever, but at 44.5mm it won't work for me (see tiny wrists on avatar).

I like the new '57 with the broad arrows, but they are hard to find and I'm having a problem justifying $9K for it anyway. If I could find one to try on, that might push me over the edge.

I had the same experience of not bonding until I got the Ed White 321. What a watch! All the small changes just transform the watch for me and make it something very special. Particularly:

Un-guarded crown
Longer lume markers (and amazing lume)
Simpler dial (no professional text) with vintage applied logo
Smaller 40mm case
Display of that movement!
Straight lugs
Ceramic bezel insert
Incredible flat link bracelet.

Beautiful photos of your 321’s out there guys, one day will plan to add one w the Silver Snoopy. My other speedys I have traded or sold thru the years. The one that has stuck around is the De Luxe 3592 & the newly acquired Silver Snoopy.

I wear my Grey Side of the Moon Meteorite most days now. I tend to mix in the Santos as well. My Rolexes are nice, but in the rotation less these days.

It is obviously not a corner stone in your collection. It is so easy to fall in this trap on what you should own and think, what tastemakers at Hodinkee, YouToube, etc says.

Be without one for 3 months. If you still think you need one then, perhaps think of getting one.

Completely understand. The Speedy has always been one of my favorite designs in watches since I can remember... I dreamed of owning one for a long time.

I finally purchased a Speedmaster Professional moonwatch about a decade ago but unfortunately sold it after owning for a couple years. Don't remember exactly why - maybe the hesalite got too scratched up, maybe I wasn't in the best financial place at the time.

Either way, I eventually regretted selling, and purchased again about 3 years later. Yet again, I sold that one after a year and a half.

I told myself that it would be stupid to rinse and repeat this behavior, even though my admiration for the Speedy continued on. However, I recently saw a video of the Ed White 321, and simply couldn't resist. I purchased about a month ago and I have to tell you, like others have said on this thread, this watch is simply another thing altogether.

I feel very differently about this watch than the previous ones. It almost feels like the perfect watch for me. If you know.. you know. Significant but not too showy. Packed with heritage. A smaller case, a superior bracelet, the beautiful 321 movement, sapphire glass, perfect proportions... This feels like a mainstay in the collection.
