Speedmaster manual winding tool
Has anyone success with a less expensive alternative to the Bergeon 31409
My Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch 1861 Hessy is very difficult to wind. I can do it by pushing my finger along the crown from the underside, but my girlfriend is going to wear this more and her little fingers can't wind the tight crown. She's going to wear it cause I just got the Moonshine Gold Green dial for myself. Thank you. |

Yes I had purchased that winder tool to help me wind an old seiko but it wasn't the best tool for the job because it couldn't grip the crown and hold it. Kept spinning without a good grip. I replaced it with a generic Watch Crown Winder Tool from esslinger.com. (SKU:59.882) works good. Not sure the crown size but the claws on this tool go from 5-7mm.

That tool doesn’t scratch or mar the crown? I would think being metal it would do some damage. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Wait, let me make sure I have this straight: a man is balking at $40 for a tool to help his poor girlfriend wind her $6k hand-me-down while he sports his new $30k gold model? I think he and she got their watches accidentally switched around.

I don't know how long you've had the watch, but my my perspective it gets looser and smother and thus it easier to wind as time goes on.
Either that or one simply gets better at it with refinements to technique Girly fingers should automatically have more dexterity. |

Speedys are thumb shredders.
Deal with it! Build up those callouses - they are a badge of honor.

However, this watch is not easy to wind. Quote:
That advice is fine for me, but I'm not gonna tell my sweet little girlfriend to "deal with it." C'mon, you can do better than that. |

The only solution I see here is for you to find a new girlfriend. Preferably one with stronger fingers or better yet no interest in Speedmasters.

My wife’s Snoopy 2 is getting a bit stiff to wind now after about 7 years of constant use.
She has found a tool to wind it, but it’s starting to hurt my finger a bit now so I guess it’s time for it to be serviced! |

Can't you just do it for her?

There’s an immature, Cinemax-level joke in here, but I shall hold my tongue.

I've got the Bergeon 31409 to wind up watches that I haven't worn in a while. It doesn't work with my Aqua Terra and just slips so it's back to thumb shredding with that one.

The winding on my 321 is buttery smooth.
FWIW, I don’t use my thumb and forefinger to try and grip the crown. I have the watch head positioned between my thumb at about 5 o’clock on the bezel/crystal, and use my index finger to turn the crown from the under side, from about the tip to the first knuckle. It couldn’t be an easier to wind and there’s virtually no finger pressure required. Maybe it’s the lack of crown guards or the movement that make it easier? Regardless, I actually look forward to winding it every time I put in on |
