Aquanaut on a nato? 5167

Curious if any 5167 owners here have thrown their watch on a NATO strap? I ordered a crown & buckle 21mm but wanted to see some pics before it gets to me.

Frankly I would like at some point to get a 5167, but half of why I like this watch is because of the rubber strap, I wouldn't put any Nato or leather strap on, but to each their own

Ordered a custom leather strap I think will look perfect. Unfortunately fedex lost it and I'll have to wait for a new one.

I don't think NATO is the right look for me on the aqua.

Looking forward to seeing it. I agree with the nato, but I quite like mine on a grey leather strap I picked up from Camille fournet. It's back on rubber now though as the temp is (finally) starting to rise

I'm a big nato proponent. I even throw some dressier watches on natos to mix things up. And nothing better than a Sub-c on a black nato. But I don't see the 5167 working well on a nato. The Aquanaut really shines on it's rubber strap. There is a cohesiveness to the design and proportions and it wears more comfortably than any nato. The porthole case shape and short lugs really don't suit a nato strap in my opinion. I think the rubber strap gives it the perfect blend of elegance and ruggedness without losing that special Patek feeling.

Thanks guys! Found some pics, I'm going with the crown & buckle new style bond that is black and grey. (they don't make a 21mm olive and burgundy)

Something about NATOs felt "off" to me and I just figured out what. It's all those buckles. The 5167 is a clean watch and the rubber strap accentuates the clean line design. Nato/Zulu straps tend to have buckles that disrupt that clean design. I do think it looks great on fabric straps though.

For me it's the rubber strap all the way because of the way the tyre tread pattern on the rubber continues through to the dial.
A dealer I know said when the Aquanaut was first introduced to him it was described as having been ran over and the pattern on the strap and dial were tyre tracks leaving the scene.

It's funny..I'm kind of sick of the tire tread look.... it's kind of corny to me now after a year of wear and want to mix it up...the nato does have a lot of hardware...i was hesitant at first because the case has those two little indents between the lugs where the strap hardwear goes in (to prevent the strap from moving up or down)...we'll see. The strap is only $12 so if it looks bad it doesn't matter...

I like how it integrates the clasp, which is one of the best parts of the watch IMO

Here's my 5066 on a Eulit Kristall strap. Soon after I got the watch I realized that I am allergic to the rubber strap. No surprise as after years of exposure, I have become allergic to latex surgical gloves. HUGE bummer as the rubber strap is so iconic. Luckily, the watch also came to me with the PP bracelet as well.

Anyway, I wanted a summer alternative and thought a fabric or nylon strap would be good to try out. I've never liked the clumsiness of the NATO strap's look. I learned of the Eulit straps on an internet search and found that my favorite strap supplier, Holben's, is a US distributor of them. Apparently Eulit is the king of perlon straps. Also, apparently nylon is far inferior to perlon as a strap material. I think the Kristall strap (there are two other models, slightly thicker) looks very classy and matches the feel of the Aquanaut perfectly. It has turned out to be a great choice for me.

BTW, the 5066's lug width is 19mm, and the 20mm strap is just squishy enough to fit under the spring bar and between the lugs perfectly. Do I remember that the 5167's lug width is 21mm? If so, the 22mm strap would likely work out great.

Note also how short the "tail" is on that palm up view- the clasp has a clever thread-through design that allows for extremely precise adjustment of the strap's overall length. That and the capability of literally millimeter adjustment of where the pin pierces the strap make for an extremely comfortable fit and all-day wear.

PS: I don't know why it looks so tight on the palm up view. It really isn't.

For me nothing beats the rubber strap, love it with the dial - a perfect marriage!

I did that with my 5167. It was a brief and unsatisfying fling.

The Tropical strap makes the 5167. I played around with every strap imaginable and always come back to the tropical. Experiment but expect to be underwhelmed.
