Hard to improve on the actual watch...
Maybe they are just installing the new 3235 movements inside...

Happy to be corrected on this, but my understanding is that an AD can't order ANY specific model. They just find out what they're getting when the delivery comes in.

Some pieces are open order so can be ordered in at any time from Rolex. Other pieces are allocation only so the AD gets a list from Rolex of allocation pieces available that month and they can choose which to order. (UK AD info) Sure Chris (The GMT master) also confirmed this method a while back. |

Well, I'll play the market for a little fun, bought the last SD4k I could find from an AD in my area...they are hilariously scarce and it's a bit ridiculous, but hey, worst case scenario I have a nice sd4k, best case, it helps pay for the new SD I ordered haha.

Completely agree! I got one back in 2014 and sold it for some reason, and regretted it. Got another one new with stickers a few months ago since we all knew it was being discontinued. Amazing watch.

SD4K might be like the short hand explorers.
I just saw 2 SD4K on display at an AD today, no other sport models. |

Keeping it BNIB. There was a preowned one I could have snagged for 8700 but I figured given that I'm taking the shot on an investment (ha, relatively speaking as this is pretty small beans even if it does go up) I'm going to keep it as investment grade as possible. If it totally kills, Ill use it to trade into something else Ill wear (I'm getting the new SD50 so won't need two of that kind of watch)

Any guesses as to what production numbers the 116600 might be in the range of?

OH HELL NO! You didn't just compare the SD4K to the short hand explorer did you? I'll give you the benefit of the doubt in assuming you had more than a few cold ones

So now that the 116600 has been discontinued, I re-pose the question. Is the 116600 now rare?

Next year, in February ... please let us know once again what would be just about to get out of production! I would immediately go and buy it!

In a few years, it might be considered rare. However, plenty of old Rolex models are rare but aren't especially valuable. I think the real question is whether people will pay a meaningful premium for one a couple of years from now. I'm skeptical that the lack of a cyclops will be enough to build a long-term value premium, but I suppose it's possible. |

I was offered one at a "nice discount" two weeks ago but only if I bought then.
I tried on the watch but didn't see anything that appealed to me over a Submariner. The salesman suggested buying the watch and storing it as an investment. I prefer blue chip equities as investments. |

We can only guess. SS sports comprise most of it.

It was a mass produced Rolex. It isn't rare. Wasn't a big seller either so not sure why it would become one all the sudden
