What would you drop for a 5990??

I have the opportunity to get a 5990 and would like to hone down my collection.
What would you consider selling/trading for the acquisition of the 5990?

Just based on looks and not actual value I´d let go:
  • VC Toledo 1952
  • both JLCs
  • both Heuers

The 2 VCs, the 2 Tags and the Lindewederlin. If still not enough, the two JLC but reluctantly.

Keep the duometre, the APs, the ZW, the hockey puck tag and Monaco because they are cool.

Also prob keep the 1952 since you have an attachment to it if I recall.

As much as I like the ceramic diver, it looks massive on it you and would fetch a pretty penny, quick.

Very Nice huracan and Carrera GT. I see no reason to hone down, You should still be adding to your collection with those rides.

Although I like VC, I would hold on to the AP's and the ALS - grab the 5990

My thoughts as well. The rest don't speak to me at all.

I would take 5990 and start from there for a new collection of up to 7 iconic watches

I'd keep the AP, ZW and Linde Werdelin, I have a soft spot for them.

Depends partly on what you’d get for each one. I wouldn’t do a major sell off if only getting a small return back.

Having said that, if the return is OK, then sell whatever it takes to get the 5990, but at least keep the diver for when you’re not wearing the 5990. If you can I’d also keep the Zeitwerk and openworked.

Keep them all. They're very interesting in their own ways.
And get the 5990.
I'll bet you can make that work.

Keep the LW, VCO, Duometre, and AL&S – the rest can go.
If you want a skeletonised watch, look at an Angelus U40 or U50, for example.

I think you know the answer , whatever has no wrist time goes . Personally I would keep both AP’s. But then the problem is what you want a keep like the AP’s are the ones you would have easier time selling , and of course the ones that you want a sell are the ones that have no market. We heard this so many times , “AP, Patek and Rolex is the ticket “ all the brands out of that circle people don’t gives you what they worth. Nowadays even inside those brands you have to be careful to what model you buy.

Good luck

I would have sold everything to get the 5990 or even better, the 5740 too.

both Heuers.

Thank you all for the advise! It’s hard to let pieces go when you have sentimental attachments to them. I was prepared to add the 5990/1A outright until my dealer is advising that I need to get a second piece to acquire the 5990.
So they recommended the 5960 of which I do like the /1A but it is discontinued. I’m not sure what second piece to order....
