Yes, personally I think the extra heft and the added Travel Time complication (Patek is about complications IMHO) makes it all worth it for me.

Is a Patek worth the premium over say a Lange, a JLC or a Rolex - or even a VC or an AP? Objectively probably not, but it is in the eye of the beholder.

Your question is highly theoretical in any case as we all know that the 5167 is very difficult to get at retail and carries a large price premium in the secondary market (higher % uplift vs. 5164).

I have a 5167A it was my first Patek, when you want only to own one Patek than the 5167 is a good choice.
In my case it takes also a few years to know that the price is not everything.
The Aquanaut Trevel Time is the best Aquanaut regardless of price.

It was a hurdle for me and many others for a time, but then once resales started rising on these it made the delta much easier to stomach and now the 5164 is selling for £32/3K.

Does the 5164 wear significantly larger than the 5167. Would like to get on the list for one but not sure if my 6 3/4” wrist is enough for the 5164. Unfortuntely there’s nowhere to try one

You should be fine with that wrist size. It’s a bit thicker and wider due to the pushers.

I agree with the others and think you would be fine. I have a 7" wrist, which is close. I posted a pic above.

What’s not to like about the 5164a?

Price point has become more “palatable” with price increase on the 5711/12 early this year. In fact, secondary price is creeping up.

Good that instead of a date window aperture, the model went for a different date mechanism, common to Patek’s other complicated timepieces.

Globe with a globe from dial to the date mechanism to the rubber strap. That’s clever design!

Rubber strap is way better for me that the Oysterflex which is warm on the wrist.

The 5164a is a practical travel watch. GMT or World Time can’t be compared to the practicality, usefulness and versatility of this watch in a rubber strap.

Lastly, I got mine around 7 months after Baselworld 2012 and love the watch every minute of it.

Go get it!!!!!

Never a second thought of bringing this 5164a on my travel. So versatile and convenient, flies under the radar and practical to wear on hot summer season!

The real question is: your AD just called and offered it! How did you swing that?! If you don't want it, I'll take it :)

The aquanaut has been a staple for over 2 decades. It’s the only truly sporty watch Patek makes when you get down to it.

Catch on already happened 10 years ago.

The most comfortable watch by far. It doesn't move, it stays where you put it.

i believe these two factors are inevitable.
I totally agree. Average asking prices for used 5167 is getting much, much higher (average asking price on Chrono24 right now is $27k). 5164 hasn't really started moving yet but I believe it will follow.

Also, I would not be surprised if PP increases retail prices for the 5167 and 5164.

Whoops I did not pick up on that. Usually when people don't know anything about patek they avert to "the only patek worth buying is the 5711" so I mistakenly placed you in that crowd.

to a point i agree. However when i bought my 5712 at retail, it costs less than my 5164 at retail. I love both watches but to me that made no sense. So a price rise cant make the pricing that way again as that was part of the problem with weaker demand i suspect.

My wrist is smaller than yours--somewhere around 6.5". Here is my 5164r on wrist. You will be fine. Get the 5164a before it's gone. It's a classic modern Patek and highly sought after.

Closing in on my 5164a. This one was definitely a slow burner for me, didn't look twice at it when it came out but it started catching my attention about a year ago. It's an extremely versatile and useful package and just all around cool.

I am very seriously tempted to sell my 5167 and move to a 5164. Love the added complication and after watching the video and now actually understanding how the 2nd time zone feature works its a winner for me.
