Discounts on PM pieces these days?

Last time I negotiated on a PM piece was 2014 and the rate was 22%.

14-17% was more common.

What can I expect these days in this very different market?

I’m seriously considering swapping my 116613lb for a Daytona.

The gold and green dial

Although I do love the black dial with champagne subdials

I love my TT sub and if I decide to sell it will be the first watch I’ve parted with

Knowing what I may be able to haggle might help me take 1 step closer to this switch happening

Gold watches in rolex are always easier to negotiate on...

If you are going to an AD I think it really depends on whether you already have an established and good relationship with that AD. If so, you maybe able to negotiate 0-20% off MSRP.

Obviously it varies by AD, but at a non chain/non mall AD you should aim for 20-22%. Good Luck!

The green dial is impressive in a big way.

How do you even broach the subject of a discount? Do you say "I'm not payin' MSRP. I'll give you 25% less" and then see what they say? I would be concerned that they would throw me out.

I was actually wondering the same thing as I too am considering trading in my BLNR and another watch towards a PM Daytona.

My usual line after trying it on is "how much discount can you do on this one?"

You ask if he can do something better. People that make money.. know how to save money. When possible of course. And always in a polite manner.

I'll try and simplify....I work hard for my money....being able to afford this expensive hobby means I'm blessed and financially established...I guess that so are you...the avg rolex ticket is 15k, so 20% is $3000, when was the last time you made $3000 in 20 seconds? .....now.....go to the mirror and start practicing....if you never ask...you will never receive:)

The green dial 116528 is a pretty in demand pm model. It’s gorgous. You might be able to get a better discount on a black dial version if that’s important to you

OP is in the UK so keep in mind when quoting achieved discount in the US!

I was quoted 20-25% a while back, not looked lately but know people mentioning 10-15% was the most they were offered and a few PM models were no discount!

Probably 10% is the best nowadays. Delta is about the same, as SS before had discounts of 10%, now 0, and PM 20-25%.

It is all about the source and your ability to pay. If the AD does not think you are a real customer then you will not get a real offer that is worth your time. My standard is 20% on YG or WG and 25% on Platinum. Even with these discounts you are just getting close to what you will get with a pre-owned watch on a sale or a flip. I would look at the pre-owned market and try to find a nice example that is complete with box and papers and save some money. Look at our TS.

Within the M25 but not central!

It wasn’t ‘I can do better then you’ type comment more stating with a decent relationship you might be able to squeeze a little more but it’s tightened up!

And it varies more so across the board now, sure I said to you a while back I was quoted over 20% off a WH Daytona on oysterflex but now my SA states no discount but if I was really interested he would see what he could do (take that as a single digit % off)

I’ve sent a few members to one AD I used and could happily say they’d get between 17-20% off any PM piece now it’s so different, I was briefly speaking about the DD40 in PM and the discount depending on metal type and dial varied the discount from 5-15%

Yeah, i just meant discounts are available. Nothing huge but you cant walk into WOS on regent street and expect it. They will literally laugh at you

They were at like 8% on a discontinued 5170G that has been sitting there at least a year, probably more. i do suck at negotiating though, and i wasn't going to buy it anyway.

Agree!

In London with the demand and your typical buyer, the discounts are more a reward where as out of London discounts are used to make the sale.

To be honest it shows the type of buyer they are if they walk in anywhere and go I want this at this % off!

Granted when I got into this game I was shopping with discount in mind but now I buy what I want and if discount is available great if not doesn’t change my mind as I decided on the purchase based on price.

Funnily you mention negotiating, well with my 15407ST I took the call and obviously say ‘yes’ but then the rest was done via email, well they sent over the payment details but at no point had the price been mentioned so I had to email back and say ‘that’s great but how much is it’ my negotiating skills had left the building

The watch market is strong and discounts are few and far between. Many AD's are playing games telling people to buy those models at/near MSRP to be at the top of the list for a highly desirable model like the SS BLRO, SubLV, or Daytona.
