Rolex shortage......Omega next?
Are you , over here on the Omega side of things, worried about the impact the SS Rolex shortage will have on Omega?
It’s only natural that if a Sub, GMT,Explorer etc becomes impossible to get that people will seek a quality watch elsewhere ....... Then a watch buyer won’t be able to go down his local AD and buy a Seamaster or Speedy off the shelf! What do you think. |

Depends if Omega want to ramp production to supply demand or not.
Frustrated Rolex customers will have many choices too. It’s not like Omega is the only game in town. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I don't think the shortage will hit Omega. I love the brand, but they produce to many different models and limited editions, so there is no exclusive feel to it.

If Omega was smart (or cared about more than just the bottom line), they would capitalize on what was happening. Rolex is basically giving them a golden ticket as I think there are plenty of rolex owners looking at omega right now.
They don't have the play the game exactly like rolex but this would be the time to organize their offerings a bit. Speedmasters and seamasters in SS are too readily available and this is not creating the amount of buzz it potentially could.. which in turn would raise their brand IMO

Ok guys, I apologise for my mistake. I was wrongly informed that Omega produced ~150,000 watches per year.
Having said that, even taking my mistake into account, Rolex produce far more watches, so how can they feel more exclusive? Among my acquaintances and pieces I see in the wild, I'd hazard a guess that, locally, Rolex outnumber Omega around 8/1. Sent from my SM-N960F using Tapatalk |

Lets put it this way, each time a Rolex AD says no effing way to my desired SS model. The same day or next day at latest im at an Omega AD or boutique. My rolex budget is going to Omega and Glashutte Original.
Omega is whise not play around with supply numbers, they are capitalising from Rolex's mind boggling strategy. Also who else can't wait till the Swatch Group event coming up. |

Yep, I've bought two Omegas (planet Ocean 600 and a Diver 300) this year as Rolex pricing and availability have meant my Sub hasn't gained relations on the winder

I think Omega misfires too often to be a threat to Rolex. Too many subtle and meaningless changes in their watches to be considered classic. I walked into Mayors in Orlando yesterday and of course, the Rolex case is bare. I spoke with the manager and he noticed by SeaMaster Aqua Terra, he, of course, ushered me to the Omega case where he wanted to show me the gray face new SM. I told him I was disappointed in the bulbous helium valve and would continue to rock my old 2254.50 but there wouldn't be a new SeaMaster in my future. Omega could really make a leap forward these days, but they seem to drop the ball and their watches hang in cases and end up discounted on the gray market. I prefer the older Omegas for sure, but their new designs don't grab me.

I use to own a cafe and made myself a latte one day. I looked down and saw condensation (tiny...tiny) form inside the crystal of my 321. It wasnt as if I steam-cleaned the watch directly. My wrist was near steam while frothing the milk. So moisture is a concern in addition to reset and accuracy with vintage models. However, at 1/5 the price, its probably a decent trade-off. |

Here is my other speedy, side by side with the Daytona c. Don't get me wrong I love the Daytona, worth ever penny even with over retail, but to say the speedy is lesser quality is not fair.

Omega could help itself if it would do the following:
Stop following trends, start creating them Stop with the fake limited editions in the thousands Focus on their best sellers and history Eliminate the discounting Make sure they have supply for their best sellers in their top markets Same things could be said for the entire Swatch group

I’ve never seen a shortage of Omegas, even the brand new models. If Swatch knows how to do one thing right it’s mass production. Thankfully they are good at it.
