Speedmaster Professional “TinTin” next Paul Newman Daytona??

Revolution watch thinks so...
https://www.revolution.watch/could-t...ewman-daytona/

Sounds like a pretty rare watch with a unique backstory. I’ll have one soon

a bit of a stretch, i reckon. but it's still a nice watch and can still be had at decent prices now. perhaps we'll see prices go up as result of the article.

It's a stretch I believe. The 69 racing dial is closer to a Newman and the Japan 3570.40 is the modern equivalent. https://www.fratellowatches.com/spee...ng-145-022-68/

The Japan Racing is cool and now pricey but doesn’t have the TinTin story and there are less TinsTins in circulation.

Well that's true. Tintin has an edge in terms of story. Nevertheless I think these Tintins are a bargain at current prices when compared to other editions. I love them.
In terms of production, I've spotted plenty of NOS Tintin in Asia last year. Now no more. Not too sure whether Omega produced more 3570.40 (2004pcs) or Tintin. However shall I quote the thread on other forum:
"EDIT: In May 2017, In a discussion I had with Jean-Claude Monachon, VP of Omega Product Development, he suggested there were about 3000 made (he did not know the precise figure off the top of his head)..."

I like Omega Speedmasters but that model does nothing for me.

If you read the Omega forums they Sussed out 1953 in total but many dials were als reportedly destroyed as they had the rocket at 11. I agree this is a must buy now.

I felt the same until I saw one in person and it’s stunning.

I think the one actually worn by Tintin when he walked on the moon can reach the auctioned value of Paul Newman's real Daytona. Com'on! it's the real thing!

More seriously.. I just love that watch. I was fortunate to find it at an AD in Hong Kong a few months ago, and it's just my all-time favorite speedy. I get more compliments for it than my Submariner.

“I love the Tintin rocket design, so I kind of wanted to bias it towards that," Musk added. "If in doubt, go with Tintin." https://www.space.com/41871-elon-mus...on-legacy.html

The lure for this watch just continues to grow.

the next to raise prices and revalue more will be the apollo 11 45th anniversary, with the celebration of the 50th anniversary of Apollo 11 and the man on the Moon, the prices of these limited editions will shoot up

Tintin

I bet it’s price will reach the moon like the tintin rocket.
But I will keep it...

Yeah best to hold on as these seem to be just going way up in price. It’s likely Snoopy priced at $20k in a year or so. Great watch.

Many love the dial. It’s the same type of response early Daytona’s had. Where the dial was “exotic”.

A good summary from the Omega Forums
Quote:
I honestly do not understand why there are so many surprised with the crazy prices surrounding the TinTin. This thread alone is over 111 pages. Robert Jan Broer confirmed the number was under 2000 on the TinTin. Numerous other discussions from people who spoke with executives at Omega have chimed in. It’s probably the rarest Omega in decades. And more significant it was a mistake. How many mistake Omegas exist? The story is very intriguing. This watch is very hard to find any longer in a complete set and NOS is even harder. It’s the kind of watch you want zero scratches and all the papers and you want to put it in the safe to keep pristine. The TinTin has the formula that all pricey watches like the Newman Daytona had. It’s not hard to see that modern watches are very difficult to get into this category of rare/intrigue/error. It’s an anomaly and many of us see no end in sight on the price because this watch is an obvious collectors piece.

The same was said about Snoopy as it sat around for years in the $12-$13k range. There are less TinTin’s than the Snoopy. Snoopy now regularly commands $22k+. This won’t be any different at minimum.

Wanna bet?

Snoopy has a lot of other influences.

The hype around the Daytona would be very hard for a Tin Tin to achieve.

There was an earlier discussion in regards to Authetic Watches selling the $15,000 TinTin
https://www.authenticwatches.com/ome...l#.XKZoY6QpCEd

I called Authetic Watches twice out of curiosity and the first call I was told the watch was out of stock and it was likely just SOLD.

Later I saw it was still on the website and called again.

This time I was told it wasn’t yet SOLD and was currently still available. It was explained that a Buyer or two had been making offers and agents were periodically holding the watch for price approval.

It’s still there and they will negotiate but the most Authentic Watches will take off $15,000 price wise is 10%.

The most interesting part of the conversation was Authetic Watches said the TinTin was the watch they received the most calls about with the Rolex Hulk coming in second.

Lastly the TinTin from Authentic Watches is new old stock but doesn’t come with the warranty card so it’s $15,000 for an incomplete set.

That looks fantastic on black leather. I prefer the leather to the bracelet. Nice!

I didn’t like it at $4000 a couple years ago, I’m certainly not going to like it at 8 or more.
I’d go with the Japan dial above.
If it had a sapphire crystal, maybe.
Good luck with the investment speculation.
It will never be a Newman, primarily because TinTin ain’t Paul Newman by a long stretch.
