Bummer.

Exact same thing happened to me. Only it was for a Daytona.

400 grand down the toilet.

I lost almost that much in a burglary a bit over 2 years ago, but at least got a conviction at 5:30pm yesterday. 15 yrs.

Sadly Ms. Corcoran’s scammer in China will likely not be caught. But worse may befall him/her in the long run.

Sorry to hear about your burglary loss, but it's great the guy got hammered with a significant sentence.

Wow. And she’s a smart cookie.

Can happen to anyone.

But damn...it’s only money.

I don’t think she was actually personally involved in this.
The account I read indicated this happened at the staff level and involved impersonation of someone giving the “ok to pay” on an invoice.
But you’re right Seth, this could happen to anyone.

wow. that is scary. but makes more sense as to her attitude.

I say it is scary because that happens in my company once a month or so. they nearly caught us once.

separately, my COO actually went to pay a wire for the downpayment on a vacation home and the bank caught it as a scam.

they actually hacked into our email, saw his communication and mimicked the entire thing with a super close email address and asked that he wire the deposit instead of bring a check to the closing.

if the bank did not see it was a brand new bank account, he would have been out of luck. and it would have destroyed him and his wife who saved up for 10 years for this.

bastards. at least Barbara can afford it.

Wow, that's a true shame. It's even more sad to think where that money ends up and what it'll inevitably find one day.

Thanks - yes it is a good outcome from a justice point of view - the DA & Judge navigated this skillfully to extract a guilty plea and then hammered the gavel on the sentencing.

The police did a good job too - they caught them within 2 weeks - and during capture about 25% of my losses were recovered. Only 1 of 4 Rolexes - but they got the most important things: my wife’s jewelry that our daughter had inherited but hadn’t picked up yet. Big sentimental value since she had just passed 6 months earlier.

So 3 Rolexes - a Platona, an 1803 Wideboy, and a diamond dialed/bezeled OP are still out there. On the NCIC & Rolex theft lists.

I still feel good about the help and the process - our LEO’s lived up to their calling, excellent...

Yikes, to be fair it wasn’t Barbara herself but someone on her team who made the decision to transfer the money. What a life to live to not get bothered by losing 400k.

It looks like she got her money back. The bank in Germany froze the funds before the money was transferred to China. An investigation saved her.

“It was only money” that statement goes to say she has a lot more to value than 400k. Good thing it wasn’t a part of her happiness
